CASTLE FAMILY - England

Journal by castle60

My family tree research was originally centred around a particular story within the this Castle family regarding Eliza Hague CASTLE (c 1834, Kingston upon Hull) and her illegitimate son Frederick William CASTLE (1856). Frederick was born in Melton Mowbray Workhouse but appears to have been bought up by his grandparents, William and Ann CASTLE (Ann's maiden name was BATES).

Eliza does not seem to appear anywhere after the birth of her son, at least not under her CASTLE name. Nobody in the family seems to know what happened to her. The Workhouse records are incomplete.

Did she get married?
Did she leave England to settle somewhere else?
Did she die?
Is there another explanation for not being able to find her?

Frederick grew up with his grandparents and their children and later had his own family when he married Elizabeth Sarah Morris. Both Frederick and Sarah were born around 1856 and went on to have Lucy CASTLE (c1881) who married Richard PITCHFORD, Susan CASTLE (c1883),Annie CASTLE (c1886), Nellie Castle (c1889), Headley CASTLE (c1891) who married Emma Desmond RICK) and Daisy CASTLE (c1894).

Frederick lived in and around Newark and Southwell, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and bought his family up there. My direct line comes from Headley Castle, he is my father's Grandfather.

This one event in the family tree has sparked further interest and now the tree is growing daily with ancestors and descendants.

After many hours of researching I have now found the elusive Eliza and her family right up to the 1911 Census.
