Joseph Lowe Candwell 1854-1928 married to Martha Shawe 1863-1942
Where did they come from in Ireland (I have been told they had very broad Irish accents), who were their parents? (I believe Joseph's father was also named Joseph Candwell). Joseph Lowe Candwell and Martha moved to Vic Australia, but I don't know when/how etc. They are my G parents.

Just another alternative
Also the name Candwell is often Cantwell and vice versa.
Emerald Hill where the above was born is now known as South Melbourne. It was vastly populated by the Irish. There is quite a bit of information online about this suburb. Museum Victoria has some interesting collections
Thanks janilye, my mum told me that Martha was a real estate agent and owned a lot of land in Mentone,. Joseph was a fruiterer(greengrocer)after carpentry. yes I am starting to look at Cantwell as it would be easy to mistake if their accent was strong as my mum said it was. I am relying on my memory of what mum told me as my father died when I was 3 and the Candwells disowned him for marrying a 'proddie'.
