A shipwright, WILLIAM Murdock, b.ca.1799 Scotland, came to Pictou, Nova Scotia at some point
and was married to ANN HARRIS, poss.b.ca.1803; she MAY have been from England. After his death
on 6 November 1871 in Colchester,Pictou, NS, the only place I see an Ann Harris is in Annapolis
Royal NS, age 79 in the 1881 census at the home of another, younger Harris.
MEANWHILE, They (William/Ann) had Nine kids - my great-great-grandfather GEORGE HARRIS Murdock
was one, born 25 Feb. 1837, Pictou, NS. George at age 17 (1854) went to Woburn Mass. to learn the
leather trade (there were already Murdocks there). On 29 May 1862 George married SARAH NOONAN
('Sally') in Moncton, New Brunswick at the Church of Scotland, but in 1864 joined the Baptist church.
1866, they moved from NB to Prince Edward Island (her birthplace, 1843), then in 1869 to St. John
New Brunswick, where he became proprietor of a factory and a homeowner. But the great St. John
fire of June 20, 1877 drove them out - with their kids - and by 1879 they took a ship to Boston
and moved to Woburn, Mass., where George eventually became a US citizen. He died there Nov. 1893,
then Sarah died (Somerville MA) March 1896.
MEANWHILE, THEY ALSO (George/Sarah) had Nine kids - Emmie(b.NB), Hattie(b.NB), John (my great-GF)
(b.PEI), William Carey,George Fred, Edith, Clarence Jones*, Alfred Earle, and Clara Jones* (*=died young). Info on all available from me on request. MOST of them stayed in that general area (E. Mass).
My great-GF John Murdock (1867 PEI -1937 Farmington CT) first married Loaney ('Lowie' or 'Lois')
Greeno of Hants County NS in 1892, who bore him my grandfather, CLARENCE TREVOR Murdock (July 2,1893
Hartford CT) and his brother ARTHUS LUIS Murdock (Sept. 13, 1896, Hartford). CLARENCE Murdock married
HELEN GERTRUDE LIPPITT in May 1920, bore him 7 daughters, one of which was my mom, LOIS MARJORIE
Murdock (Sept. 13, 1933 - Apr. 25, 1986).
