I started research in 1984. Fortunately, my father, Tony Jack Satterfield, was still alive and that proved helpful. However, there are still a million unanswered questions and he passed in 2002. Tony's father was Augustus "Gus" Satterfield who served in the Civil War at the tender age of 14 after he was conscripted by the South and taken prisoner by the North. He was given the opportunity to join the North and he did. I am certain that he suffered from post tramatic stress syndrome (PTSD) and this seemed to affect all of his marriages. My father was the last son of Augustus.

Augustus' father was Lt. Hezekiah Satterfield. His father was also Hezekiah Satterfield, Senior, with an estimated birthdate of 1783. We know that Hezekiah, Senior, was in Maryland and he married Peggy Diggins.
