Hi. My dads name is Geoffrey Francis Dowling and i have a cousin who is Jane Dowling. We are Dowlings origionally from Tassie, many still there.

Thanks Sandy - My line is originally: Charles Dowling (in Tas. convict. 1812. d. 1877 in Victoria) defacto: Mary Murry. They had 7 children: Charles, Patrick, William, Francis, James, Michael and Lachlan.
I'm from Charles b. 1820 who married Catherine McGuire in 1848 Vic.

I expect your comment regarding the marriage of Francis DOWLING and Josephine PERRIN (married 1882) appeared in one of my marriage journals. Being connected to this line I can tell you Francis DOWLING was not born in Tasmania, and their only child died the day of birth.

However, there was a Francis DOWLING (born in Tasmania) married to Jessie May Alice MACKENZIE in Victoria in 1879. Looking at my old research notes they only had the one child in Victoria, Louisa Cecelia, born in St Kilda in 1880.

Thank you so much and yes this does help. My tree has two Francis Dowlings, the first born in 12.4.1824 at Muddy Plains, Tas. married Charlotte Fletcher in 1850. D. in Colac Vic.1883. I have their line.
The second as you have stated above, Francis Dowling (the son of Charles and Catherine McGuire) baptised Melb. 1850 married to Josephine Perrin. This was the one I was searching for (would be my g. aunty). So many thanks again.
I don't know who Francis married to Jessie May Alice Mackenzie was, I don't think that one is related. Unless it was the Francis Dowling, son of James Dowling and Chaterine Rooney - they were in Vic. m. 1852 Geelong. James, the father was the brother of Charles Dowling.
Do you have any info. on Mry Alicia Dowling married to Peter Williamson. Mary lived to be 92 d. 1945. Again my g. aunty. Would be happy to share what I have if you are interested.

Sorry, unable to assist you with any details on Mary DOWLING. I know she married Peter in 1884 and died in 1945. The death records named her mother as Mary MCGUIRE, but I think her mother may have been Catherine MCGUIRE. I could be wrong.

I have not looked at the DOWLING side of things for several years, but I will have another look at the records and pass on any details I come across.

I am from the Colac Family History Group and we are researching all pre-1900 burials in the Colac cemetery and Francis and Charlotte Dowling are among those burials, along with several of their children, a couple who died in very tragic circumstances. Would you be willing to help us out with some information about the family please? I have found Charles in Tasmania and a couple of their sons in Victoria. For some reason we thought the Mary was Mary Barrett or Barratt - that is the name in our Pioneer Register from information from a descendant. We would be grateful for any help you are able to give us and would be happy to exchange information we have.
