Looking for CLIFTON of Nottinghamshire, Engalnd
My grandmother's name was Galdys Mary CLIFTON. All I know about her is that she was married to Frank Oswald BAMFORTH and they lived in East Retford Nottinghamshire, England. I have never been able to find out anything about her family and would love to do so. I believe she had a brother Frank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm also keen to hear about the BAMFORTH side of the family too.

OK Gladys Mary Clifton married Frank O Bamforth East Retford, Nottingham in 1919.
In the census the only Gladys M I can find was born in Huddersfield,Yorkshirein 1891 to Robert & Maria. Do you think that would be about the right year of birth for her? If so I can give you the details of the census for 1891 and 1911, Cannot see a Frank although there are other siblings
As far as I can see there were 4 children to the marriage Geoffrey R 1921, Jack O 1923 Sheila M 1925 and Anne B 1927 all born in Retford
This could be her birth

The only way to find out if this is the right Gladys would be to purchase her marriage certificate that will give you her fathers details and possibly her occupation and you could purchase the birth certificate to see if it all matches up.

Thanks for your help. As you may have realised I am new at this!
The best way to start is by gathering information on what you know
1. Start with yourself, what information does your birth certificate tell you
2. Get copies of your parents Birth & Marriage record (and Death records)
3. From your parents records - get copies of your grandparents Birth Death & Marriage records
4. Check, double check and recheck all information against certificates and any family papers that you may have.
5. Have fun, you might find some interesting skeletons in closets and a few dead ends.
6. Ask if you're stuck, it can't hurt and you just never know who might be looking for the same or similar information.
Just keep working backwards, Death Certificates can be a wealth of information but be careful as the information is only what the informant knew or thought they knew about the person, it can be very accurate but sometimes it is not.
Here are a few sites that might help in you in your search
http://www.freebmd.org.uk for England & Wales Birth Deaths & Marriages from Sept 1837 free to search.
https://www.familysearch.org Birth Deaths and Marriages also has some family tree information available it is free to search but some of the records are submitted so do be careful and check the source
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for Birth Deaths and Marriages this is a pay per view site but does have loads of information
http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org for Cornish records Births, Baptisms, Deaths, Burials and Marriages also has a link to ask for help.
Ancestry.com is another good source but it is a subscription site.
There are other Parish Records Offices that will help in your search some charge a small fee others a donation.
National Archives sites have information as do Newspapers online as well as Libraries and Local Historical Societies are another good source of information.
The are loads of members on here who have a wealth of information in finding family information, just ask and I'm sure someone will point you in the right direction.
