Looking for MAIN in Edinburgh b, circa 1802

Query by daveandannaw

James Patrick Main born c1802 in Edinburgh, father Peter. Looking for any proof of his birth or anything leading to me finding such proof. JPM was convicted in 1819 of theft and transported to Tasmania on the convict ship 'Hibernia'. He was married in 1826 in Victoria and died in Victoria in 1876. After his arrival in Tasmania I have every detail imaginable on his life and times and descendants but cannot prove his birth in Scotland. His father was born there (again from private papers) and ALL those papers relate to Edinburgh and Scotland. He had a half-brother in one James McNab MAIN who was also transported in the early 1836. He was born in Edinburgh on 11 Marc h 1817 in Edinburgh., married in NSW in 1840 and died in Victoria in 1894. He was transported on the Bengal Merchant.

Another subscriber had me check dates and I made a couple of errors. Apologies. The request is now up to date. Thanks Alan.

SV.,
Thanks. I've not involved myself with Scotland's People because of the cost but over the years I think I have tried every other source know to man without success. Certainly Ancestry, LDS etc do not have any records. Maybe you are right.. the time has come to make one last effort and see if we can trace my gggrandfather through another website.
I'll pay the money and see what happens.
Regards
Dave
