Deakin, Pipe Aston

Query by Dawn1

I am researching my Family History and looking for the address of John Deakin when he went to War between 1914 and the time he was killed in Action on 22 October 1917. Pipe Aston is known as a 'Thankful Village' which is probably untrue as John was killed and I believe lived here with his parents. Would like to know their address at this time though if anyone can help.
Regards,
Dawn Williams

In the UK 1901 census he was living at Aston, Aston, Hereford with his parents James (1857) and Oleathea (1862) and 4 siblings: Florence (1888), Annie (1893), William (1893), John himself (1897) and Walter (1900) all born in Aston.

In 1911 census the address is Pipe Aston, near Ludlow, Shropshire. Parents now know as James and Alathea : John a Labourer on Farm Walter and another sister Amy (1903)

When he died he was :
Enlisted : Ludlow
Regiment, Corps : Gloucestershire
Battalion : 14th (Service) Battalion (West of England)
Number : 31996
Date died : 22 October 1917
Theatre of War : France & Flanders
Supplementary notes : Formerly 5337, Hereford Regiment

Well done Silver Vixen - what site did you use to uncover military history?

Hi,
Thankyou so much for your reply, however I do already have the above information. What I'm looking for is the address where John was living at the time he left to fight in the War. Basically if I can prove that he was actually living in Pipe Aston at this time then Pipe Aston will no longer be registered as a Thankful Village. On no records that I have found so far does it give the actual address of this family. Would you know the best place to look for this?

Many Thanks and much appreciate your response.

Regards,
Dawn

I think perhaps you may only get lucky by using local trade directories, (to be found at libraries and records office,) or perhaps there is an electoral roll or maybe, (long shot in a village,) a telephone book.

Actually - surely his home address will be on his military record?????

No, His Military record just states Pipe Aston. Pretty obvious that he did live there at that time but just want to be sure by having his actual address. I think I'll have to start searching the Herefordshire Directories and Records.

Thanks Alot though ;)
