Kia Ora Aroha , hello my name is Wayne Ruru , and my mothers Nanny is Ani Welsh .

Mum grew up with Nanny Ani whilst she was a young child , Mum was about 8 or 9 when Nanny passed away . Mums maiden name is Mete , and showed me her lineage directly to Patuone from the Mete side . On Nanny Anis side , I've had to work it out where the line traces back to and I believe that it is back to Patuone as well .

Here goes Aroha , Nanny Ani had a brother called Waata (I think it's your great grandfather Walter "because Walter is Waata") whom married Mihi Te Rina Pairama .... and there may have been a younger sister named Mue Welsh (b.1872) ..... Their Parents were John Welsh and Kararaina Hohaia ..... John Welsh was born from Walter Welsh and a woman named Mary , both Irish citizens (b.1807 and 1809) ..... Nanny Kararaina Hohaia (b.1850) was born from Hohaia Rore (b.1810) and Erana Kiri (b.1814) in the Hokianga .

This is where it got tricky Aroha , on Ancestry.com , Kararaina was born from Hohaia Rore and Erana Kiri ..... Eranas parents were Unknown , and Hohaia Rore was from Tino To Kare (b.1786) and Te Ahotahi (b.1790) . Some of the birthdates I have trusted to hopefully be accurate Aroha .

Then , the whakapapa we have from a genuine source within our Whanau has Patuone having had 4 wives and they being Te Wheke , then Te Hoia , then Takarangi Riria and finally Rutu . Research resulted that Hohaia Rore's Father was Hohaia out of Patuones second marriage to Te Hoia .

That's where it got a bit confusing ..... due mainly to Hohaias mother having different names in front of me , but they may be the same person . Te Hoia and Te Ahotahi . Hopefully the same person with a name change . I saw that when one gets baptised , that they either add or change a name as a consequence , like Patuone did when he got baptised a week or so before the Treaty was signed , and in doing so , Patuone then became known as Eruera Maihi Patuone .

Patuone was born in 1764

I hope that this helps you out a little bit Aroha , and that some of the details may correspond with some details you may have acquired in the interim .

Kind regards

Wayne

Kia ora cuzzies my name is Isaac Warbrick. My father is Barry Warbrick, son of Maud (Moehuka) Henare. Her mother was Irihapeti Welsh, also a daughter of Kararaina Hohaia and John Welsh (and sister of both your Tupuna, Ani and Waata (Walter). I have similar whakapapa charts to Wayne above with Tinotakare and Te Aotahi as Rore Hohaia's parents but then my charts go on as such without any mention of Patuone so I wonder if the link to Patuone was mistaken based on Payuone having a son named Hohaia but not neccesssarily related (closely at least) to our Hohaia whānau (I've heard whānau talk about that link before too)

Starting from Rore Hohaia going back in generations I have the following:

Rore Hohaia
Tinotakare = Te Aotahi
Rakapa Paikea = Nie
Te Urungahau (female) = Takare
Pareaute (female) = Putahi
Kotehau = Maitu
Waimatarangi = Tauia
Tama = Te mihinga

Let me know if you want to go further but hopefully that helps.

Kia Ora, Im also a decendand Kararaina Hohaia who is my great, great, great grandma. A number of yeas beack we had a family reunion on the Waimamaku Marae and I since put a family tree together from nformation I was given by one of the Ngakuru clan called Ellen and she has passed on but was in the mormon church. I have tried in vein as it was said we go back to Patuone but study on line shows gaps.I could Email a copy of the family tree of Mere Welsh. My grandma was Elizabeth Julian and most of the clan are ngati pakeha in looks. The family tree I was given goes back to the hull Mamari and includes names not mentioned here.
