Looking for Jackson family of Islington, London

Query by bessy

In the early 1900's My mothers family and grandparents lived at 5 Gerard Street, Islington, London.
This was Dennis and Elizabeth (nee Long) Jackson's family, There were at least 10 children in the family, of which one was my grandfather. My mother emigrated to New Zealand in 1949 and so I have only sketchy information about this family tree. I am 59 this year and I know I have cousins in the UK but have only been in contact with three of them, and only recently, my cousins would be in their 50's and 60's. I would love to find out more about my family tree.

I cannot find a marriage to Ellen, but found a death for a Mary Long aged 27 in 1878 St George, Hanover Square, LondonQ1 1A 341. I could be barking up the wrong tree here Albert was born St George, Hanover Square, registered Q2 1A 451. It COULD be that he died in childbirth and with all the turmoil Albert was not registered until the 2nd Quarter. However I could be completely wrong.

just looked through some of mums papers and she had census details for 1881 Morris with Ellen as his wife, and a daughter called Elizabeth born 1870. I looked up the marriages in FreeBMD and the marriage details had an Ellen Smith in the list and wondered if he married her not Mary Samuel, how can we verify this?

Hi bessy, I have rechecked with the information you have supplied and it looks like (and this is not unusual) that there are 4 names all with the same reference married at Westminster St Mary : Morris Long; Ellen Smith, Mary Samuel and Thomas Morgan. So it would seem that Ellen Smith is correct, she did not show up on my search but as she is in the 1881 census I would take that as correct.
The only way you can really verify is to send off for the marriage certificate.

Hope this helps

Thankyou I thought that I might have to send away for the marriage certificate so thanks for confirming that. Today I got an email from a daughter of a cousin in UK and she told me she has done the family tree and it is on Ancestry so I shall go to the library and check that out as soon as I can as I dont have asubscription to Ancestry. Finally after all these years I have some contact with relatives who are interested in geneology. I should get somewhere now. Youve been so helpful thankyou.

If you relative has your tree on Ancestry she can send you an invitation to view it, this will not cost either of you anything
