Funny family stories

My grandfather was born in 1878 and lived to be 106. As I was growing up he would sit with me on the porch or in front of the fireplace and tell me stories of the Civil War. I was in Junior High before I realized that Grandpa Eubanks had not actually 'lived' those stories, they were ones he had been told by uncles and other members of the family. The best one was about his father and grandfather burying all the family valuables and money under a big rock shaped like a frog out in the pasture. When the war was over they had both forgotten where the rock was. As far as my grandfather knew, the jars were never found. To this day one relative or another will walk the pastures of the farm looking for a rock in the shape of a frog. The land is still in our family. Sincerely, Mary Ellen (Eubanks) Johnson

Years later, we moved from Arkansas to California and I stored my journals in my mother-in-laws storage room above her smokehouse. Two years later, I found mice had made a 'home' out of my journal. I places the contents in a sandwich bag and now show it when I make talks to people about writing and saving their life stories. I tried very hard to re-construct the tales but was not very successful. Maryellenjohnson
