The Lawlers of - Lucknow and Orange NSW Australia - about 1800-1880s
My father Brian b:1927, only son of Leslie Lawler d:1933.
This branch of the Lawler family was sadly torn apart by
death of Leslie unexpectedly at the age of 37 years.
Most of the family are deceased and whom are left of that
generation will not speak about the era.
I am the eldest daugther of Brian Lawler. Dad would not
talk about his family at all, whether it be pain or hatred
I will never know. I have just received some information
lately, Leslie Lawler's father was Edward Garrett Lawler
and Leslie's mother was Alice Henriette (nee Astill of Orange).
Edward Garrett Lawler was born about 1867 Lucknow NSW, he was named
after his father Edward Lawler a miner in Lucknow NSW.
Edward the Miner was partnered with Anne (nee Madden).
I am looking for any information about the Lawlers, I find it
hard to believe that there were no brothers or sisters
of the Edward the Miner or Edward Garrett Lawler who went on to be
a horse trainer.
Any help is always greatfully accepted.
Thank you for your time.
Shelleen.

Hi Gerry
Your information is very helpful and
extremely welcome.
Thank you.

I have no idea if any of this is relevant but I'll lay it out anyway.
There was also a John Garrett Lawler (publican at Narromine) his father was Garrett and mother Fanny, nee Riley. Garrett and Fanny married in 1867 in Orange. He was the centre of a much publicised divorce from Emma Victoria Morgan back in 1903.
He was born in Orange in 1875. He died on 27 February 1930. He had a brother Francis and a sister Frances. John Garrett Lawler had just the one son called Martin Garrett Lawler. It probably doesn't relate I think there may be a connection being born in Orange. &c.also share a burial site with Edward d:1927
I think these 3 are Annie Madden's

Thank you Janilyn.
Your information certainly does weave it's way around my family,
but does pose a question.
According to my marriage certifcate for Edward Garrett & Alice H. Astill
Edward & Ann (Madden) were parents of Edward Garrett.
Which makes a Question of
1. why were John Garrett and Edward interred together
2. no known birth records for Edward Garrett abt. 1867-8.
or any marriage details for Edward & Ann Madden.
3. were Garret(who married 1867 Faney) and Edward(interred with John) brothers?
4. really jumping to weird conclusions - perhaps
a- Edward Garrett born to John's wife but lived with Edward & Ann Madden as
their son, perhaps Edward was the real father.
The wonderies of Family History, just as well that I like a good puzzle.
Thank you again for help, you have given me a lot of details I didnot have
and confirmation for many more.
Regards
Shelleen
Hi there Shelleen, I may have solved part of your mystery and would like to compare notes with you.
Edward LAWLER (born c1839) married Anne MADDEN (born c1839) on the 16 Apr 1860 in the Rites of the Catholic Church, Bicheno, Tasmania (District of Glamorgan). The witnesses were: Patrick LAWLER, Margaret MADDEN & Harriet Barber. I believe Margaret MADDEN is a sister to Anne.
They had two children in Tasmania:
1. Fanny LAWLER born 23 Jan 1861, Glamorgan District
2. 'female child' born 15 Nov 1862, Glamorgan District
No further record of them in Tasmania after.
The Patrick LAWLER who was a witness at their marriage could possibly be the Patrick LAWLER a military pensioner from Ireland who was granted land at Rocky Hills (Glamorgan).
Cheers

Hello.
I am also trying to find information for this very family tree as I may have an ancestry from it.
So far I have found:
- Edward John Lawler 1839 Tasmania - 16th September 1927 Forest Reefs, Orange NSW & Anne Elizabeth ( Annie ) Madden 1838 Kings County, Ireland - 10th July 1922 Beneree, Forest Reefs, Millthorpe, NSW REG NO. 1922/14058
- Anne & Edward are the parents of Merpher Lawler 1870 Orange, NSW. REG. NO: 1870/14747 - 25th March 1946 Orange, NSW.
- Merpher had children with Susannah Elizabeth Bentley 1881 - 1940
- Merphers & Susannahs children that I have found are:
Justin Henry Lawler 16th November 1923 Millthorpe NSW - 11th Feb 1975 Carlingford, NSW
Robert Emmert Lawler 1912 - 1918 Millthorpe NSW
John Alexander Lawler 1913 - 15th March 1968 Kirawee NSW
William H Lawler 1915 Millthorpe NSW - Unknown currently
Merpher Lawler ( The 2nd ) 1917 - 1921
Mona Florence Lawler 1919 - 26th October 1989 QLD
- Justin Henry Lawler had children with Sylvia May ( Ianthe ) Herring 1924 - 1993
Justin’s and Sylvias children that I have found are:
Judith Anne Lawler
Someone from ancestry related to Justin that I have messaged said that two of his sons accidentally tragically burnt their younger sister to death in Orange NSW and that they moved to Sydney after that. I think that would be the pain or hatred you speak of.
