I can't answer your question about David, but I am very excited to find someone else researching the Stodarts! David 1779 was my GGGfather, then Charles 1822, then Frank Alfred 1886, then Frank Edward 1911 (my father).

What was the relationship of James FRSL to David (1779).

Regards, Anne Penn

Hello Anne,

Thanks for your reply, I have obtained a copy of the Will of James Stodart whilst in Scotland. The Will refers to a David Stodart as a nephew, James Stodart died in Scotland at the house of his uncle Robert Stodart, the pianoforte maker. James Stodart lived at 11 Russel Square, London after leaving the business at 401 Strand, London. The business was continued by David Stodart until around 1839-40. I have also established that another uncle of James lived at the Russel Square address, he was William Stodart. At the moment I am in Australia, when I return I will update you on any other information I have. The Australian Maritime Museum have a David Stodart, Surgical Instrument case and set of instruments on display. Bye for now,

Phil Stodart.
