A family tree on ancestry.com has death of William Bawden as 17th March 1858, age 35, wife Mary Bartlett. He was born Bridge. He is definitely the William James Bawden whose death is recorded in the April-June quarter of 1858. Andrew.

1841 census William is at home with his parents in Perranuthnoe
1851 " William & his family are living at Quethiock
1861 " William has already died so Mary and the family are at Menheniot.

Andrew my William mary Mary Bartlett but he doesn't have James as a second name. I wonder if this is a small mistake in this persons tree?

On the Cornish OPC database site, it lists William's marriage and his father as John BOWDEN.

It also has the baptisms for Honor under BOWDEN as well I wonder if Williams death was recorded as BOWDEN instead of BAWDEN.

Thanks asheppard, yes we do know that Honor was bapt as BOWDEN. Thomas Francis, Honor, John & Mary Ann is from our family. I have a cousin who lives in Lancs and he makes trips to the record offices and places in Con and he has had trouble trying to find William's death.

The Cornwall records are sometimes difficult to discern because of the two spellings: Bawden and Bowden. In my tree it came over to the US as Bawden but in UK records it's sometimes seen as Bowden. The family shield with the 3 "cockatrices"...imaginary creatures...with knives through their throats...someone told me it means someone was silenced. Shields emanate from the owner of the manor. I think I've seen that was Edward Bawden but haven't traced that far back to see if he was in our branch. I've seen another Bawden shield and don't know who that belonged to.
