Looking for Parents of a Hiram Parrish born 1819 in Lowndes County, GA

Query by gloriajean

The problem is there were two men with this same name born in the same decade, in the same place; they both migrated to Florida and married, and both fought in the Civil War. Even though they lived in different parts of the state, there is a lot of confusion. Our Hiram married Sarah Elizabeth West from SC. Can any one assist?

Just joined so I could respond to your post. There are indeed two Hirams. One was probably a cousin born in Adel, Lowndes County, GA in 1825, who died in southwest FL. The Parrishes moved from northwest of Wilmington, NC around 1790 to Bulloch County, GA (near present Metter, GA). Children then stayed there, moved west to the vicinity of Adel and Nashville, GA, or moved south to Camden County, GA. Some moved from Camden County to the present Lake City, FL area 1820-24. Our ancestor who married Sarah Elizabeth West was born in Camden County, GA in 1819. I scanned historical property records to pdf of our relatives there. That property is west of Woodbine. Our Hiram was living south of present day Lake City, FL when he joined the Florida Infantry. He lost his left leg from the knee down at Gettysburg, lived, and died of pneumonia in Whitehouse, FL on 12/10/1866. I could tell you more about him. For someone in the extended family who really follows geneaology, contact Ann Parkinson in Humble, TX.

Hi Larry,

Your response was the most information I've had on the branch of my family tree ever! I am unsure of your relationship, but just so you know, I am the first cousin of Ann Parkinson. Her dad and my mother (Thelma G. Saunders Woods) were siblings. I have a lot of information about Hiram and Sarah Elizabeth once they married and settled in FL, but could never solve the mystery of where our Hiram was from, and who his birth parents were. BTW, who are his birth parents? Ann used to share a lot of family history information with me, but not so much now. I think she's just very busy since she was elected president of her county historical society. We do keep in touch though! Please do write back and let me know who you are in the family tree, and the names of Hiram's parents. I bought the book on the Parish family and it doesn't include our ancestor to my knowledge.

Hi Larry Ann Parkinson and I are sharing information on Ancestry.com My username on ancestry.com is cwharrell It is a Harrell Tree with my Parrish line attached. My mother was a Parrish of the cook County and berrien county Clan. I sure would like to be able to connect Hiram 1819 to my tree. We need any proof you have of Hiram's birth and the names of his parents. We are certain they are on our tree already but just cannot make the connection. I had conjectured that Hiram 1819 was born in Camden County, Georgia, USA. Any information you can send to Ann Parkinson would be appreciated as well. Thank you in advance.

Hello cwharrell, I did open an account on this genealogy site, but failed to complete it or follow through. Your post to Larry as I read it leaves me out of the loop, but I still have an interest, and would like to hear from him also with an answer to the same questions you are asking about my great great grandfather Hiram Parish. I need to follow through more consistently with my efforts. I read in the Parish book that some of the family was never included because not enough documentation could be found. I fear our ancestor may be part of this group. Thanks for your efforts.

If Hiram 1819 was born in Camden County then either Ezekiel W 1779 and Elizabeth Crawford or Josiah 1771 and Cassandra Osteen Cason are your ancestors most likely. The last child in both families listed in trees is 1815. Surely there were more. They both are sons of Henry Parrish and Mary Ann Monk Both families have children with similar names all during the same general times of birth. Ezekiel stayed in Camden County but Josiah and his clan moved to Columbia County, Florida. Hiram voted in Columbia County in 1843 and enlisted into the Florida Infantry from there. The most likely probability of your line is Josiah 1779 son of Henry Parrish and Mary Ann Monk of Bulloch County, Georgia.
