Looks like he was in the UK 1851 census, living at Gwennap
Richards, Samuel, 34 (1817) Copper miner, born Gwennap
Mary, wife, 32 (1819) Gwennap
Samuel, son, 13 (1838) Copper Miner, Gwennap
John, son, 11 (1840) Copper Miner, Gwennap
Ann, daughter, 8 (1843) Gwennap
William, so,; 6 (1845) Gwennap
Catherine, daughter, 3 (1848) Gwennap
Henry, son, 1 (1850) Gwennap

I have a Baptism for Samuel Richards, Gwennap, Cornwall, 22 May 1816 : Father Samuel Richards, mother Jane

Gwennap is close to Redruth where I have two marriages either (or neither) of which could be your Samuel
Samuel Richards married Mary Jenkins Redruth, 1837, Q3 9 243
Samuel Richards married Mary Morcom Redruth , 1838 Q4 9 304

As son Samuel was born 1838 I personally would choose the first as then he would have been born legitimately, the second marriage would have probably take place after he was born as it is in Q4 but I will leave it to you to decide
