I found this at Papers Past - Looks like this could be the same Heenan family??

CORONER'S INQUEST.

An inquest was held this day at noon, at the European Hotel, Gibson's Quay, on view of the body of Patrick Heenan, aged fourteen years, before Dr Beswick, coroner and a jury, of whom 'Mr T. North was chosen foreman. Alter the body had been viewed, the following witnesses were examined. Margaret Heenan, examined by Sergeant Major Dickson, deposed I am the wife of John Heenan, and deceased's mother. I last saw him alive at home at about an hour and a half before his death. He left, saying that he would go down on the wharf. Joseph Stanley deposed I saw the deceased on the wharf yesterday afternoon. Some men were drawing a log by a horse along the wharf, and when it stopped deceased went and sat on the log with his head resting on his hands and his elbow on his knees. Some men were leaning on the log at the same time. The driver was standing near the boy, and the driver went to the horse's head, and without telling anybody started the horse. The boy then fell forward on his side and rolled, and the wheel went right over him.

After hearing the evidence of Dr Macandrew, the medical officer, Mr Gribben, Superintendent, and Mr Sellars, attendant, the jury returned a verdict of senile decay The deceased,' who was^ 82 years of age, was admitted to the Asylum from the hospital on the 28th of November, 1894, and was then in a wesk state- For some time previous to death he had been kept in bed.

Hi - Thank you so much for this. I did have a little of the information, but the funeral notice is particularly enlightening. I have looked through papers past, but obviously missed this notice. I will keep hunting for the missing pieces - there seems to be very little info from family members - my father who was the youngest child of David Heenan died when he was only in his 40's. The Heenan family had a shoe shop in Hokitika called Heenans Boot Palace, and I did find that a Mrs Breeze had opened a tearooms next door to that called 'Up to Date Tearooms'. Pleased this has been a help to you.
I had a quick look for Mrs Breeze on NZ BDM and I found this:-
She was Margaret Heenan and she married John Jerome Breeze in 1879 - Ref - 1879/1266.
Margaret Heenan and John Breeze went on to have 11 children. One of the sons was named George Patrick (after her young brother who was killed by the rolling log?)and sadly George Patrick was killed at Gallipoli in 1915.

To go back to the children of Margaret Heenan Snr - it looks like the children were Patrick, David, Thomas, Margaret (Breeze) and Martin.
Martin appears to have died in 1916 - BDM 1916/768 and there is a marriage for him in 1885 to Elizabeth Cupit Phelan. 1885/3212. I can't find any children for them on BDM, but they are probably there but the spelling of Heenan might be something you will have to play around with?
The Phelan family were hoteliers in Greymouth and were also of Irish descent - got this from Papers Past.

Hi - This is great information - you have given me so many answers - the best thing I have done is join Family Tree Circles - you have been so much help to me. I knew there was a 'Breeze' connection but not how it fitted in to the family. (Indeed I thought it may have been Margaret (Snr) Heenan's maiden name - that is still a mystery). My quest to get our tree completed this year is looking brighter - but I'm not worried if it takes longer as I want it to be correct as far as possible. Thank you for all your help. Janet

Since my original post I have found out quite a lot more about the Heenan family and am wondering when John and Margaret came to Australia or if they married in Australia. My father was Edney Heenan son of David Alexander Heenan (younger brother of Margaret) I have a suspicion john's name may have been Henaghan as one of his children (Martin) was registered under that name. It is possible he came to Australia in1931 aged 20 as a convict. This would account for the discrepancy in ages between John and Margaret. If you can shed ant light on this I would be grateful.
