John McGinity in New Zealand
I am looking to trace John McGinity - he married Sarah Webb in Greymouth New Zealand on 4 June 1872. He was born in 1840 - other than that I have no further information. He would be my great grandfather.

hi janet,
Sarah & John had a daughter, Mary Ann McGinity in 1872
hard to research this name as many spell it McGinty and I was going to write and ask if YOU had it right :)
anyway, Sarah was born in Scotland in 1842, married John in 1872, had Mary Ann that year THEN on 15 July 1880 Sarah married John McFie (in Kumara) and had at least 2 more children in Greymouth, or Greymouth area
1880 - Ethel Ellen McFie
1882 - John McFie (died aged 5 months)
doesn't matter how you spell it I haven't been able to find the death of John McGinity (for one born in 1840)
Hi - Thank you very much for your reply. First of all my info on Warah is that she was born in Est Wekks Somerset in 1840 (although her first marriage certificate shows 1838), She married Benjamin Larcombe on 23.11.1858 - they had 7 children - and came to New Zealand in 1864.
In 1872 she married John McGinity in Greymouth he is listed as a miner and she a widow (but I don't think she was). They had two daughters - 1 born before her marriage - Alice Jane (my great grandmother) in 1870 and Mary Ann in 1872.
She went on to marry John McFie in Kumara on 15.04.1880 (stating she was a widow). As for John McGinity whom I would really like to trace, I can find nothing - I did find a John McGinity as a head cook on a sailing vessel in Australia; it is feasible that he could have sailed into Hokitika which was a big port in those times. I got the McGinity spelling from a family bible. Janet
I've got a few on my tree but spelt McGinnity from Patrick McGinnity 1773-1825 a convict from County Meath, Ireland. Just mentioning it because perhaps your John's death record has the 2 N's
Thank you for your response - I have seen it spelt both ways on documents - Sarah's marriage to McFie has 'McGinity'. Perhaps John McGinity is tied in with your ancestors - it is probably worth exploring. I can find no death record.- Janet
I don't think so, I've accounted for all my John McGinnity's, unless there was a sneaky somewhere.
Maybe the Maginnity's in Victoria!
I'll check for you.
That would be great. Thanks
