Hi Wilbers,

I was able to search the BDM for New Zealand and found that Leonore died in 1956, aged 85. You could order the death certificate from that site. to find out where the death was registered, where she lived, her children, and so on. The reference is 1956/24848. By the way, Leonore's maiden name is Patrick, in case you didn't know.

Re Alexander... there are too many Alexander Smiths to be certain which of these the death records relate to.

I also did a quick search of the archive NZ papers via Papers Past, which is easy to use. You can find it through a google search.

Couldn't find any Death Notices for Leonore, so can't say for certain where she died or was buried.

Again, Alexander Smith is a common name. There were numerous entries, some of which showed recorded deaths. One could be this Alexander. An Alexander Smith is reported as dying from a motorcycle collision in 1914. He was 25 and married with a child. As was customary, the name of the wife or child wasn't mentioned in the article.

I therefore checked BDM NZ to see if Leonore had married again, which may indicate that Alexander had died young. I couldn't find any record.

Neither could I find any records of births from the marriage, but this doesn't mean that there weren't any.

Anyway, you can use Google to find BDMs NZ, and Papers Past.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the update, Wilbers.

I'm based in Sydney, so if I can help from this end, please let me know.

In the meantime, you're doing everything I can think of. I'm off to our State Library this weekend, our BDM office and local cemeteries to try to track down some more info on my family! All good fun, isn't it?

Good Luck! :-)

Hi GWhiz,
Last night I found the marriage number for Leonore Patrick and Alexander Smith. I wiil get that and hope that it has more names for Alexander. Then I will know when he died.
Have fun at the Library. And I love doing this too. I have to go to Auckland to get info, for our libaray is very small but we do have ancestry on line and that is good.
Have a great weekend.
