I am new to this site

i have recently lost all of my family info due to a crash on my computer. I have saved the hard drive so mabye someone can pull my info from it. But anyway i do have some in print form that i will try to post over time.
I am a decendent of The Downey family from William Downey Bef 1789 M Elizabeth . And this is where I began my research. I have only got info for one of their sons James Madison Downey B 1815 in KY. Ihave gone almost every relative in this line and some of his children and so forth.

Did you start your research with you then your parents and work your way up the line?
Where are you located as hard-drive recovery can be quite expensive and may be able to help you.
