James McDowall Mayor of Ballaarat in 1868-9 was my Great Grandfather. I have found his burial plot in Ballarat along with his two infant sons. But no one else? His wife was Ann Greig Coutts (m.1856), or his daughter Annabella or son John George Gray

aka John Lloyd (b.1864 and was buried in China in 1923 after living in Shanghi since 1890. MY father with the same name as his father John Lloyd WAS BORN Shanghi IN 1894 AND CAME TO AUSTRALIA IN 1912 or THEREABOUTS. I believe his birth was registered in Scotland.
James McDowall was from Glen Luce Wigtownshire Scotland.
I would very much appreciate any further information about burial plots and on living relatives. I recently found a distant relative, Peter (Lee) McDowall, great grandson of my grandfather's second wife.
Because there was estrangement between my grandfather John and his father James, little is known at all. It appears that my Grandfathers acceptance of the diplomatic posting as Postmaster General in Shanghi was not what his father James had wanted for him.
After all is said and done I would dearly love to know if I could enter Scotland to visit distant relatives with an entitlement to a British passport? My recently contact with relative Peter (Lee) McDowall reveals he grew up in England, but his grand father (my father's half brother) was born same place and lived in the same place as my father in Shanghi.
