there are a number of EMENY on this list of students at
St Joseph's Convent School - WANGANUI 1916

a couple of Emeny had Wellington Hotels in the 1800s

do you have NZ districts and some first names, dates etc?

hi linda,
that was Arthur Frederick Emeny who died in Rotorua 6 June 1963 aged 85
His ashes were buried in Plot 42, Ash Berm, Block 6A, RSA section at Rotorua

was his wife's name Beatrice? who died in Auckland Hospital on 18 Oct 1944 aged 45. Her ashes were scattered at Waikumete and not taken over to Waiheke
There was an age difference of 18 years between this Arthur and Beatrice so not sure if they were a couple, although her husband's name was Arthur Emeny

It would be best if you shared with us all the info you have so far which will make searching so much easier
wife's name?
parents names?
children's names?
what did he do on Waiheke?
etc etc :)

hi linda,

no, no connection sorry, just a researcher :)

see also Emeny Burials which has Norman Arthur Verey Emeny & Edward Charles Verey Emeny also buried at Rotorua. A Stuart Charles Emeny (1938-1938) was probably named after Arhur's father but don't know yet who the parents were. Doesn't look like Vera Annie married, she is also at Rotorua.

off out for a few of hours but will look for more later tonight/tomorrow

cheers

Thank you for your research
It is most helpful
Stuart Charles Emeny turns out to be Arthurs father born 1842 died 1877 London
Thank you again

I meant,
STUART CHARLES Emeny (1937-1938)
- died 26 March 1938 aged 1
- buried Plot 1, Section 53, Block 2, Rotorua

this Stuart was probably named after Arthur's father, who was also Stuart Charles Emeny, but I do not know who the parents were of the 1 year old at Rotorua cemetery

by linda12345 on 2013-02-24 03:19:07

Oh right, that is interesting. Those Emeny must have lived in Rotorua with out knowing Arthur was also living there.
Its funny because Arthur had a brother Walter Norman born 1875 , but didnt think he came to NZ The plot thickens!
Thanks
Linda

by ngairedith on 2013-02-24 04:04:53

hi linda,

which Emeny did you mean who "were living in Rotorua without knowing Arthur was also living there"??

by linda12345 on 2013-02-24 06:00:05

The parents of the child that died and is buried in Rotorua

by ngairedith on 2013-02-24 06:40:17

I was thinking that the child, Stuart Charles Emeny, born in 1937 was very probably a grandson of Arthur Frederick Emeny, as all of his sons also lived in Rotorua

The likely candidates being:
* Norman & Anne Rose Emeny
* Dudley Enemy (by the way, I have not yet found his burial, do you known?)
* Edward & Ethel Mavis Emeny

At this stage I'm thinking Edward as the strongest contender, only because his second name was Charles, so passing it on, as they did ???
Unfortunately, Stuart was the only body burial all the others being ashes, otherwise he would have been buried with, or next to, his parents

just hope someone who knows will read this on the net and let us know

by linda12345 on 2013-02-24 07:21:32

All Arthurs children were born in england 3 boys and 3 girls one of whom is my grandmother Marie Louise Emeny her mother Martha died in 1931 and he never remarried. so likely this child is not his. Strange that this infant is called the exact name of my gg grandfather and buried in Rotorua. Now that is just weird
Dudley, Edward (Ted) and Norman were Arthurs sons
Everything has an answer, but wether I get to know it is another thing

linda :),

please re-read the comment above your last one ...

... "I was thinking that the child, Stuart Charles Emeny, born in 1937 was very probably a grandson of Arthur Frederick Emeny", as all 3 of his sons, Norman, Dudley & Edward, also lived in Rotorua as did their wives and so one of those couples would have been the parents of Stuart Charles Emeny, therefore making him Arthur's grandson, and that one of those couples (young Stuart's parents) named him after their grandfather, Arthur's father ...

if you click on this link EMENY BURIALS North Island, you will see all the info I have for Arthur and all his children and other Emeny who lived in New Zealand

- as at this time I have for Arthur:
? ARTHUR FREDERICK Emeny (1877-1963)
- son of Stuart Charles EMENY (1842-1877) & Sarah Jane REW (1856-1920)
- died 6 June 1963 aged 85
- ashes buried Plot 42, Berm F, RSA Ash Berm, (Block 6A), Rotorua
* Arthur's father died in March 1877 aged 35 so Arthur was probably an infant when his father died
* Arthur married Martha 'Emma' VEREY (1876-1931) in Aug/Sep 1901 in Greenwich.
- a daughter of Thomas VEREY (1839-1907) & Ruth JORDAN (1843-1924)

- the children of Arthur Frederick & Martha Emma (all born in London):
1902 - 1984 Norman Arthur Verey Emeny
1903 - 1987 Marie Louise Emeny
1905 - 1995 Dudley Alfred Verey Emeny
1907 - 1981 Edward Charles Verey Emeny
1909 - 1994 Vera Annie Emeny
1913 - 2006 Doris Ruth Emeny
* the family emigrated to NZ about 1915 (see comments)
* 'Emma' Emeny died 13 August 1931, burial yet to find, possibly on Waiheke Island
- ashes buried Plot 42, Berm F, RSA Ash Berm, (Block 6A), Rotorua
* Arthur's father died in March 1877 aged 35 so Arthur was probably an infant
* Arthur married Martha 'Emma' VEREY (1876-1931) in Sep 1901 in Greenwich.
- a daughter of Thomas VEREY (1839-1907) & Ruth JORDAN (1843-1924)
- the children of Arthur & Emma, born in London:
1902 - 1984 Norman Arthur Verey Emeny
1903 - 1987 Marie Louise Emeny
1905 - 1995 Dudley Alfred Verey Emeny
1907 - 1981 Edward Charles Verey Emeny
1909 - 1994 Vera Annie Emeny
1913 - 2006 Doris Ruth Emeny
* the family emigrated to NZ about 1915 (see comments)
* 'Emma' Emeny died 13 August 1931, burial yet to find, possibly on Waiheke Island

and then when you read further down the journal you will find individual info for each of his children

as I said above ... "It's a shame little Stuart was the only 'body burial' at Rotorua, all the adults being ash interments, otherwise he would have been buried with, or next to, his parents" and that would have told us who his parents were. But then, genealogy wouldn't be so interesting if it was that easy :)

by ngairedith on 2013-02-24 07:53:57

sorry, I have listed his children twice but I'm sure you'll work that out

by linda12345 on 2013-02-24 20:06:47

Thank you for that I have solved the question of who the parents of Stuart Charles infant. They were Edward (Ted) and Ethel they had twin boys in 1937 and only Peter survived, until now I didnt know the name of the other twin.
Thank you for your patience and research It is intriguing and very interesting unravelling the past!
