David Hendry Anderson, a hydraulic engineer, married Sarah Ann Milton Jan-March 1869 (registered Bermondsey, Surrey, England, UK): they came out to South Australia in 1881.
For all South Australian (and other) descendants of David Hendry Anderson and descendants of David?s siblings, here are some Anderson connections:
David Hendry Anderson was born 07 Sep 1842 in Dundee, Scotland, the eleventh of twelve children born to the master mason Thomas Anderson (d. 13 Dec 1857) and his wife Jean (Jane) Falconer (d. 01 Aug 1876) in Dundee. The couple had married in June 1823. Jean Falconer had been born in Glen Ogilvy (Glamis), Angus, 03 Oct 1804, to the blacksmith John Falconer and the midwife Jean Duff, who died (?)06 Apr 1849 at Milton, Glen of Ogilvy (Glamis), Angus.
David?s father, Thomas Anderson (himself the eldest of eleven) had been born in August (christened 21st) 1789 at Ennoch/Glenkilry, parish of Kirkmichael in Perthshire, to the lint miller Alexander Anderson and Margaret Hendry (sometimes shown as Margaret Glenn Henry). That couple had been married (recorded both Kirkmichael and Alyth) in August 1788, and had children at Ennoch and nearby Dalnoid, and later at Miln/Mill of Cupergrange/Coupar Grange in the parish of Bendochy. No death dates for either parent: Margaret was born in Drumburn near Alyth about 1765 and likely died in Bendochy in 1810.
John Anderson, painter & paperhanger, later hotelier of Broughty Ferry near Dundee, was David Hendry Anderson?s oldest brother, born to Thomas and Jean some eighteen years earlier on 10 Apr 1824. He had married Margaret Kerr Smith (1851) and in 1885, came out to Australia to visit his son, Thomas (b. 1853), who had emigrated to Victoria in 1872, married the Irishwoman Margaret Power in 1880 and died in Melbourne, Victoria in 1935. My Anderson line derives from this pair.
David Hendry Anderson?s nearest older brother, the shipwright Alexander Stuart Anderson (born 09 Feb 1841), married Margaret Fullerton in Dundee on 21 Apr 1865 and, on David?s recommendation, also came to Australia (per barque ?Aldergrove? arr. 31/10/1883). He lived in Warrnambool, Victoria, and later Sydney, NSW, where he died 23 May 1917. Margaret had died in Balmain NSW 13 Apr 1898.
Other siblings of David Hendry Anderson (none known to have come to Australia) were another Alexander Anderson (1825-26); William Falconer Anderson (1827-1893), married Mary Seaton; Thomas Duff Anderson (1828-1883), married Ann George; Jean Anderson (b. 1830); James Falconer Anderson (1833- ?), married Agnes Smart; Elizabeth Duncan Anderson (1835- ?), married ? Mudie; Sarah Anderson (1836- ?), married James Simpson; Margaret Anderson (1838- ?); Andrew Anderson (1845-1851).
