edgar alfred coates was born at Longford tas. 1878. his parents were thomas, born 1850, and mary ann lacy, born 1849, they married at Longford in 1871.
edgars siblings were as follows....
alice mary
mary jane theresa
louisa margaret
christopher johnathon albert
william
osmond
thomas
nina
george
edwin
arthur.....the second three siblings went by the surname "cootes"
some were born at westbury, longford and deloraine.
have all there birth dates, and some marriages, will post more tomorrow if wanted.

Thank you for info.Holly 7.Edgar was my grandfather,he passed away on 29th August 1960,buried at Branxholm (Tas).His children Nina,George(my father),Arthur &Laurie (all deceased).I have a photo of Thomas &mary's 50th wedding anniversary.Would like some info on their parents/grandparents etc.Woud be interested in Edgar's marriage info.

thomas coates parents were: john coats, born dorset england 1811, died 13th nov.1883 at longford, john married marianne skinner in 1838 at east stoke dorset.
marianne was born 1817, wareham dorset england, and died 1891 at longford, both are buried at mt. irah, illawarra road, christ church cemetery, longford.
john coates parent were: philip and judith coates.
will see if i can find marriage info for edgar.

the only thing i can find on edgar alfred coates, is he married ethel stewart in 1914, ethel was born 1885, and died 19th june 1959.
between 1914 and 1919 they lived at deloraine, and between 1922 and 1954 they lived at ringarooma. nothing much else about edgar im afraid.

I live at Scottsdale.Edgar and family moved to Legerwood in 1919 and farmed a property named "Rhodidina".this farm was passed down to George and then to me.sold property in 2009 and moved into Scottsdale,where my wife Maris & I currently enjoy retirement.Have you a family connection with the Coates family?

i have no connection with the coates family, i saw your post and did a few lookups on your behalf. i found a few "wills" as well, your,ve probably already seen those, but if not, you can find them on the "linc tasmania" website. i asked where you lived, in case it was overseas, and you had no access to our library. there's quite a bit of info on the coates families on ancestry.com as well.
