Where else can I search for my ancestor James Matthew Blunt who appears in Australia in 1917

Question by xfactor

with no records found for birth, departure, arrival, immigration, naturalisation, voting, Sands directory or anything else we have searched. I have created a tree of over 1000 family members in the search for links and clues but a year on and two searching and no closer to any clues before 1917. We never thought it would be this difficult!

Yes, I have a Marriage Certificate - married Madolin "Dora" Collins nee Webber on 30 June 1917 in Newtown Sydney. He states his father was John Thomas Blunt and mother Mary Cunningham although this could be May and the Cunningham is hard to read. His age is recorded as 36 (birth would thus be abt 1880 - 1881 ). Birthplace Indiana U S America. Unfortunately Indiana didn't start birth records until 1882, without a 1890 US census, and no need for passports at this time I have found it a difficult time frame to obtain any further info.
Madolin was born on 2 June 1881 in Surrey Hills NSW Australia. Her age is also stated as 36.

Death Certificate - 13 June 1919 Newtown NSW Australia. Step daughter (18) states he was from Indiana USA and had been in NSW for about 20 years. Her mother Madolin "Dora" also died on this day, both from Influenza. They had a child Leslie James Matthew Blunt who was adopted by Charles Saunders Willcox and Elizabeth Ashton. They had all been living together in Dulwich Hill NSW at the time of their deaths. Charles was Madolin's cousin. I have been to the house they lived in at this time which still stands. With all our scouring we still have nothing prior and because the marriage was so brief there were few other Australian records.

Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Try looking on the Trove website..www.trove.nla.gov.au . There are lots of Blunts listed there, but I couldn't see any James Matthew's...though there are some other references to James Blunt/John Blunt that may or may not be connected.
