I have been researching the Vorbeck name, on and off since the 1980's. Christian Vorbeck, born in Mecklenburg Germany circa 1827, came to North America in 1850. Sailing from Hamburg Germany in April 1850 bound for Quebec Canada. The next time he appears in a data base is in a 1855 Erie Co. New York Census in the Town of Grand Island. Christian is married to an Eliza Tiedemann or Thiemann, born in Germany circa 1829. They live in a "Plank" house, are farmers and have three (3) boarders one who is a John Tiedemann, who I believe is Eliza's brother. They have lived in their persent location for three (3) months, since about March 1855.

Christian and Eliza "Yetta" also lived in Tonawanda Erie Co. New York for a time. While in New York they had I believe five (5) children Louise (died of the croup), John (also died in infancy), William F.F., Sophia Charlotta and Anna Catherine. Sometime around 1867 Christian, Eliza, William (my great grandfather), Sophia and Anna left the Erie County area moving west. In 1870 the appear in the Livingston Co. Missouri Census living about five (5) miles south of the town of Chillicothe. They ran an inn, farmed and fished in the Grand River which they lived near. They lived in what was called the "Jimtown" area which was also a main road through the county (north and south) for travellers. There was a ferry crossing and later a bridge that spanned the river. Christian, Eliza, William and Sophia lived their remaining years in Livingston County. Anna moved to Kansas City Missouri and lived their until her death.

Other names associated with my research are:PHILIPS,GRANT,SLOVER,CAMERON,ISRAEL,WHITE,SHAW,BOUCHER and WILSON. These are names of husbands and or wives of the direct descendants of Christian and Eliza. I am interested in Christian and Eliza's families in Europe and anymore information on Eliza after arriving in America. I may have located Chris's parents but cannot confirm it at this time.
