ngairedith, many thanks for that information, would you happen to know if Anne Hall was previously married to Josiah Fletcher prior to marrying George Hall and would you know what relationship young William Ibbotson is to Anne Hall

Hi tonkin, the Anne Hall (knee bird) I am researching was born in Ireland in 1819 and migrated to Australia with her first husband Josiah Fletcher onboard the Barque Salsette in 1841....can you confirm we are talking about the same Anne Hall....thanks edf

no I don't yet know the relationship but here are the details of his death:
Te Argus, 2 March 1869 The Daylesford Mercury relates that, on Thursday afternoon, a shocking and fatal accident happened at the Dry Diggings. Mr. Ibbotson, farmer, of Newstead, was returning home with a load of timber, from Musk Creek saw-mills, and the material was drawn by a team of bullocks in a waggon. When at the foot of the hill, at the entrance from the Daylesford-road to the Dry Diggings township, the father then being on the waggon, his son William, a fine youth of seventeen, who was walking alongside, attempted to release the break. In some unknown way he fell down, and though Mr. Ibbotson saw the young man's danger he could not stop the team in time to prevent the near wheels passing over the chest of the deceased. Mr. Ibbotson immediately jumped off and caught up his son, but he was lifeless. Death must have been instantaneous.

the Primitive Methodist Church at Lyons street, Newstead began their services in the home of William Ibbotson who was the first owner of the land. He offered the site to the Church members for half of what he had paid for it and then gave them another quarter acre as well. The church was opened 30 Nov 1860. The building was purchased by the Masonic Lodge in 1907. The Methodist Church (1907) became the Uniting Church in 1977. It is now operating as Ranters Chapel Retreat, a Bed & Breakfast at 17 Lyon Street, Newstead (near Maldon and Castlemaine)

If the informant for Ann's death gave the correct information the Ann HALL that died in 1873 was born about 1800 in Gloucester and her maided name was STEVENS.

I think this confirms this 'is not' the Ann HALL, nee BIRD, you seek born 1819 in Ireland.

It appears you are looking for the death of Ann HALL, nee FLETCHER, nee BIRD.
Will do a few record searches and try and find her for you.

Grandmother, however the Anne (Bird) Hall that janilye and Tonkin have already nutted out is the correct Anne Hall, do you have any details about her up to her death, did she remarry after George Hall, date she passed away and location would be extremely helpful...... many thanks edf

I've had no luck finding another marriage or death for Ann to date. I will let you know if my luck changes.

lynda1, the Ann Hall buried at Green Gully with young William Ibbotson was born in Gloucester and not in Ireland and her maiden name was Ann Stevens (not Bird)and she was the daughter of John Stevens.....
The Cawthorne- Ibbotson link is very confusing and I still think our Ann Bird - Fletcher - Hall is buried at the old St James in Docklands cemetery in Vict...but I cant find anyone there who can assist us as we don't know her married name after George Hall died or if indeed she re-married....edf
