How did you find that out? Joseph Duigan was my grandfather and I remember him well. There never seemed to be anything spoken of the Duigan family. He died in 1971.

I have James' Death Certificate which says he died of suicide by taking Lysol.

Amazing. Poor man. His wife Annie took in boarders and my Dad was boarding there and Annie's granddaughter, Mary Duigan, used to visit her Grandma and that's where she met my Dad. That' probably c.1948. I can remember standing by Gt Grandma's bed and not long after she died, according to death certificate of cancer aged 77.

what was Annie's maiden name?

by ngairedith on 2014-06-12 06:52:00

James was a well-known Carrier for the Express Company for many years in Ranana, Wanganui (originally from Ireland). James later severed his connection with the Express Company and was employed by Mr A. P. Lundon

Annie's maiden name was Wilkinson. Lillian Florence Paul (my grandmother) was committed to a mental institution when Mary, her only child and my mother, was about 3. She remained institutionlised until she died aged about 92. I met her when she was about 90 and was residing in Raventhorpe. My mother was never allowed to see her and she died in a car accident at 42. However, we all used to spot her when we came to Auckland as she dressed up and had a bag everyday and sat in the bus stop on the main road, she was quite well known. Apparently waiting for Prince Charming to come and get her. She was a sweet little old lady.

I have worked out that James Augustine Duigan was born in 1874. He married in 1899 aged 25.
