by Shallcrass on 2014-08-10 14:07:06

No idea probably Islington or Camden married, he died in 1973. She Married Knifton Shallcrass in 1947 so it would be before that.

Thank you that seems right.

On her marriage to Knifton Shallcrass does it have Daisy as MS Gilson, formerly Curtis.

There doesn't appear to be any record of Frederick David Andrew Curtis marrying Daisy or anyone else.

His death certificate may hold more clues, possible wife and children's names if there are any.

Is this the ancestry tree by Frederick David Gilson?

He has Daisy as Daisy Emma Florence Gilson b26 July 1913 Surrey? parents George Gilson and Annie S(Selina) F(Florence) Newton

You may need to contact the owner of the tree directly for assistance with information or purchase a copy of the birth record. It is possible that Daisy and Frederick had a child but were not married. The certificate may hold more clues.

There is this birth record
Births Sep 1935
Gilson Frederick D Gilson Westminster 1a 554

Thank you, Daisy was born on 26th July in Nth London, she died in Surrey. Fredrick D. Gilson was born 18th August we thought it was 1934. The problem is Daisy was not very truthful about her past and family history. So it is very likely they did not marry Mr Curtis. She told everyone Fredricks father died in WW11.

I assume that the question has been asked by my half-sister, Philippa Shallcrass. I am Frederick David Gilson (but always known as David Gilson). I was born in the early hours of the 19th August 1935 in the Sheffield Street Hospital (now a doctor's surgery. That hospital was east of Kingsway and west of Lincoln's Inn Fields and the Law Courts and the western end of Fleet Street in London. Our mother was born as Daisy Emma Florence Gilson on the 26th July 1913 in Islington, north London. Her mother was Annie Selina Florence Gilson nee Newton (died in 1951) and her father was George William Gilson (killed in action on 17th December 1916 at Ypres, Belgium, when serving in the 16th Battalion of the Rifle Brigade Regiment. His has no known grave and his name is on the Menin Gate Memorial). Our mother died in late 2005 aged 92 years 5 months in the Croydon area I believe, named as Mrs. Daisy Emily Florece Shallcrass. She always told me her 2nd forename was Emily. Perhaps she didn't like the name Emma. Although she and Frederick David Andrew Curtis knew each other (they were the two witnesses to her mother's third marriage in early 1935) they never married. Our mother implied that he was my natural father but that information was advised to me when our mother was very old. When our mother married Knifton Charles Shallcrass in 1947 it was her first marriage. My half-siblings, Phillipa & John Charles Shallcrass were born 13 and 17 years after I was. Until she married in 1947, our mother called herself Mrs. Gilson, as being unmarried in the 1930s & 1940s was very much frowned upon. I understand that our mother's ashes were given to a young lady who I presume was a daughter of John Charles Shallcrass. I can't remember if my half-sister's forename is spelt Philippa or Phillipa. As a serious published Historian, I am used to difficult research. I've also studied many languages and realised that I am blessed to be a linguistic mimic (able to replicate native accents at home & abroad if I listen to them for many hours). Best Wishes.

Hi thanks for the info its Philippa. I was just looking to see if any family still was around . I would love to be in contact.

Hi, it's good to have made contact. I sent an email to your friend Terri. Potoczna asking her to mention that I had written several posts re: our grandmother Annie. I've written several posts on the Grandmother of Philippa Shallcrass - Terri Potoczna thread, which has a photo of Annie sparring. I'm busy writing at the moment in preparation for an all-day Writers Conference on Saturday, at which the novelist & Athletics History Writer, Peter Lovesey, will attend. Last year, I asked him why he wrote novels and he replied that it was to put bread & butter on the table for his wife & children.. Terri Potoczna seems to be most comfortable with Polish & Hungarian, although her CV is impressive. Annie's third marriage was in late 1934, not early 1935. There must be info that you know and I don't, and vice-versa. Is it John's daughter that has our mothers ashes? Best Wishes - David.

Hi I have not had contact with John for many years. I saw you more recently than him. I have never met his family and mum made it clear that I was not welcome.
Terri has sent your e-mail so I will write tomorrow eve as I now have yours.
