looking for all I can find out about my Grandfather Harold Isaac Selby who was in the Boar war in South Africa. He was from New Zealand /Australian group. He stayed in South Africa after the war and we think he married ??????

Harold Isaac Selby was born 13 Nov 1878 in Dunedin, a son of Charles William Glass SELBY (1852-1906, from London) & Emma Cecelia DRIVER (1842-1911, from Victoria, Australia)

Harold was a School Teacher

Harold married Alice Woodford-Harris (1887-1967, formerly Bircumshaw) in 1916
- Alice was a daughter of Emily Woodford who married Thomas Harris in Leicestershire, Alice then becoming Alice Woodford-Harris. Her mother, Emily Whitmore-Harris, next married Charles Vincent Cassels in 1914.
- Alice had first married William Ernest Bircumshaw in England in 1905
ALICE & WILLIAM had at least one child:
1907 - 1958 Edna Emily Bircumshaw
- born in Leicstershire, married twice, died in Auckland
HAROLD & ALICE had 2 known sons:
1915 - 1983 Wilfred Ralph Selby
- born in Auckland, died in Wellington
1916 - 2006 Harold Elliot Selby
- born in Invercargill, died in Leederville, Perth WA & memorialised at Pinnaroo Valley Park with wife Ruby Effie (1914-2002, born Auckland)

Harold Isaac Selby served in the Boer War as Private 444 in 1901 (aged 23) & his records say he was born in NSW, Australia
In 1903 he was reported as living in South Africa
In 1910 he was reported as living in Fremantle, WA
In 1911 he was living back in Invercargill
Harold served in WWI as Company Sergeant Major 33131 with the NZEF, 28th Reinforcements Specialists Company, Machine-Gun Section. He embarked from Wellington 14 July 1917 (aged 39) and his wife Alice was his next of kin at 103 Ponsonby Road, Auckland
In 1919 he was back in Auckland
In 1928 he was in Franklin, Auckland
In 1949 he was in Mount Roskill, Auckland

Harold died 23 March 1958 in Auckland
- he is buried SOLDIERS BURIAL L Row 14, Plot 76 at Waikumete cemetery
Alice died 9 July 1967
- she was cremated at Purewa

Many thanks for that as he is my Grandfather. I have much of your info . He was born in Otago NZ. I am rather interested in his South African movements after the war before Western Australia. I lived in WA myself for 30 odd years and always thought I knew my way around from the first time I visited. This was before I knew Harold had lived there.
