Parents of Elizabeth Sinclair Nimmo, b. 1823, Scotland

Family surnames are NIMMO and SINCLAIR. Specifically, Alexander Nimmo and Elizabeth Sinclair married in 1844 in Barony, Lanarkshire. Would be glad to hear any suggestions regarding the search process and/or any family information for the above names. I am aware of the difficulty of the 'Alexander name' references : i.e. wee Alexander, Black Alexander, red Alexander, etc. I know they came to America and settled eventually, lived and died in Wisconsin, USA. They are my grt grt grandparents. My question, if SINCLAIR is a Upper. Highlanders clan, how did they connect with the NIMMO's of the southern part, Lower Scotland. I have been researching the history of Scotland and read about CULLODEN Rising '45 tragedy. Thank you for any help.

Do you have any of the childrens names to help in search and do you know when they went to America.

ketco47 on 2014-11-25 11:04:42Greetings, thank you for detailed and rapid response. I too had found the reference to Anne Forrest Nimmo's birth. She would have been born a year or so after her parents marriage IF this pair of Alexander and Elizabeth are truly her parents. I found passenger entries for Elizabeth Sinclair and John Sinclair in about 1848. I have no concrete assurance who these people are. As often was the case, the husband traveled across first to find work and establish a work/ habitat for his family. Women often traveled with male relatives, using their maiden names. I have a list of other Nimmo children born in the USA which isn't helpful in the Scotland records searches. I work at a FHC in Upland, California, USA and have films available, however, I need to know WHERE and WHEN? which is my block/brick wall. Do you live in Scotland?

I did a quick search but nothing comes up for child Anne but the name may have been transcribed incorrectly.
Do you have the GRO/OPR image for Alexander Nimmo & Elizabeth Sinclairs marriage?
Did you find an entry for Alexander Nimmo. John & Elizabeth could be related do you have ages for these two at time of arrival? it may be possible to find them in the 1841 census or again in the Scotlands People site, it's worth a try.
