Buckhurst Family
I would like to gather information about ancestry of William Blyth Buckhurst (1853 - 1924). I am a direct descendant of his, my grandfather being Wilfred Henry Buckhurst, William's son. Has anyone else researched this? I would be most grateful for any assistance and am happy to share what information I do have.

Buckhurst has been a Family Tree Circles member since Dec 2014.

Thank you I think you've cracked it! Actually I only a few hours ago I located the same birth details on line, but not the 1861 census details. For some reason the Blythe was spelt differently. The 1861 census details are extremely helpful thank you very much!!!
The record wizard28 found is the baptism this is possibly his birth a copy will verify details

Thank you asheppard, However the birth of William Buckhurst 1852 registered at Shoreditch is to George and Margaret Ann Buckhurst, a different family. As to the death of Susannah Maria Buckhurst in 1862, I agree this is likely William Blyth Buckhurst's mother. The mystery now is to name his father. I guess a birth certificate is required for that? Thank you so much for your interest. :)
Susannah Maria Buckhurst is on the 1851 & 1841 Census with her parents occupation listed as Milliner

He could have been registered under his fathers surname have you tried checking for William Blyth ? b1854, or William B ?, it might throw up some possibles.
Thank you, that is helpful. I had the marriage details of Stephen and Sarah Ann, but not their occupation. That is interesting, for according to another researcher he became Admiral Stephen Buckhurst, suggesting he was a navy man. I suppose it's possible he had a change of career?
Regarding identifying William's father, I haven't tried the method you suggest yet., will will do so. To be honest there seem to have been so many William Buckhursts around at that time it's rather confusing.....Thanks for the suggestion!
Stephen Buckhurst was a lodging house keeper in 1841, a post carrier in 1851 and a postman in 1861/71. I do not think he would have gone from an admiral these occupations.

Father: Stephen Buckhurst

Wow! Thank you so much for this, though I think some family members may be shocked! I agree it is most unlikely these occupations would have led to an admiralty! And this information you gathered from census records? The site I was using didn't list occupation.
I have amongst family documents a copy of a death notice for Stephen's wife Sarah Ann Buckhurst. It mentions her as the wife of Stephen Buckhurst, not Admiral Stephen Buckhurst, which I did think strange. But that makes sense if he was never an admiral!
Is it also possible to find the occupation of Susanna Maria Buckhurst, (his daughter, born 1826)?
Apologies to asheppard,, you have already researched Susanna's occupation, and concluded she was a Milliner. Thanks again for this
Try contacting the Parish registry office for Saint Marys, Portsea Hampshire they may have more details on the baptism of William than what is recorded on the baptism listing.
The records are held at Portsmouth Office, under Portsmouth.gov.uk if you search Portsmouth History Centre it should bring up the website
