Journal by Morgan2409

Myrtle Linda Kirk was born at Darlington, Victoria in 1891 reg#22063. Her parents were William John Kirk (Blacksmith) and Elizabeth Annie Bell. She also had a brother Robert Baird Kirk born 1893 Darley Victoria reg#12030.
Myrtle trained as a Nurse and worked at the Alfred Hospital in Victoria and was residing with her parents at "Kirkel", Orrong Road East St Kilda. On the 7th August 1917, Myrtle joined the Australian Army Nursing Staff, aged 26 years. Her brother was already serving overseas and her father serving in Australia with the Veterinarian's Corps. Nurse Kirk began her service at Victoria Barracks, Melbourne.
Staff Nurse Kirk embarked from Melbourne on the 12th June 1917, per "RMS MOOLTAN" and disembarked at Suez on the 19th July 1917. She Nursed in Salonica, Greece at the 52nd and 56th General Hospital.
Her Appointment with The Australian Army Nursing Staff was terminated after her marriage with Lieutenant Arthur Joseph O'Meara at Salonica, Greece on the 12th June 1918. On the 22nd July Myrtle O'Meara embarked on the "Kanowna" at Suez for her return to Australia.

I assume that Lieutenant O'Meara was an English Officer. At some stage he was Appointed District Judge in El Obien, Sudan. In 1923 Myrtle is writing from the District Judge's Residence, in El Obeid, Sudan requesting issue of her Medals.
