Patrick Conway (alias Conlon) born 1809 Longford, Ireland married Margaret Blackwood (alias Elliott)

Query by hawkespeters

I have records of my paternal great great grandfather being shipped to Sydney Australia in 1832 as a convict. But I can't find any of his history or family line left behind in Ireland. So my family tree has hit a brickwall.

When he arrived his life changed ultimately for the better eventually when he was granted his ticket of pardon and the permission to marry my great great grandmother, also a convict shipped here from Scotland Margaret Blackwood (alias Elliott) b1816 .... Another mystery... I again cant trace her tree back to before she was convicted tried and sent out to Sydney, NSW, Australia 1839.

So if anyone else is trying to work on this branch or can advise me I would be very grateful.

Kind regards
Lis

Hello Peter

I know a lot about Sarah and Robert Hawkes. I've been to Newcastle on Tyne in England where Robert had his Mahogany importing business. I've visited the street where the family lived in Tynemouth. Sarah's name was Fisher and her family had been in the area since the 1500s.
Robert was born in Newcastle and his father was born in London. I haven't gone back any further yet. I want to know why his father was well-off enough to send his son to Eaton and Oxford.
My great great grandfather was John Mason Hawkes the eldest of Robert's children.
I live in NSW and travel to the UK regularly.
