My great-great-grandfather was John Brandwood, born in Bolton, England, who married Mary Alcock of Sanbach, Cheshire, in 1833. My great-grandfather was his son, George, and my grandfather was George's son, Albert Edward. Albert Edward was killed in France in 1916. His son, my father, George Brandwood, was then came to Canada and joined the Canadian army. After being wounded he was discharged to Canada where he met and married my mother, Ada Chambers, who came from London, England.

hardaker on 2007-01-03 16:01:37I think your Great-Grandfather George Brandwood (born Liverpool around 1839) was my Great-Great Grandfather. He had a daughter named Annie Caroline (around 1879 in Everton, Liverpool), sister to Albert E. Brandwood. The census for 1881 says:

John P. Brandwood Son / 9 Scholar Liverpool

Jessie Brandwood Daughter / 5 Scholar Liverpool
Annie C. Brandwood Daughter / 1 ----- Liverpool
Perhaps Albert and Jessie were twins - not sure. Annie C. (my g-grandmother) married John Riley (originally Reilly from Ireland), and they had a daughter named Grace Riley (and lots of other children), all in the West Derby area of Liverpool. Grace [my grandmother] then married a Hardaker, originally from Bradford, we think but then living in Liverpool too. They had 4 children, of which one was my dad, John, born while stationed in the army in India.
The Martha, wife of George in late 1800s, we think was a Hadfield from Liverpool, born around 1844, was a widow in 1901 census, living with Albert (25), his wife Sarah and 2 sons - John (3) and George (2), so this also seems to tally with your story.
