Roseanna or Anna B Rule of Finger Lakes, NY

Journal by JerryShaw

Birth 11 Jun 1824 in New York, New York, United States or Finger Lakes, NY Married to John Wesley Hartsock(h)/Herzog 5 Oct 1847. Some evidence she was the daughter of George Rule & Sarah Fessler. I need confirmation, since Anna is my great great grandmother, and I am attempting to determine the veracity of these lineage claims, since I don't believe George Rule/Sarah Fessler ever lived in New York or the Finger Lakes of New York. In all census I found for John and Anna she is listed as born in New York, her parents names do not appear on the marriage reg. so how do you know her parents are George Rule/Sarah Fessle if you do not have the baptism or birth reg ? Is it on her death reg ? when did she die ?

Thanks Scott. Yes, I too have confirmed your findings on the place and date of her marriage to John Harsock(h) from their Civil War pension applications. A census from 1830 shows for George Rule, a family of 7 was living in Scipio, Seneca, OH. Too bad they didn't enumerate by name in those days. So George's family in 1830, 1 M under 5, 1 M 5-9, 1 M 40-49, 1 F under 5, 1 F 5-9, 1 F 10-14, 1 F 30-39, for two parents and 5 kids, two boys and 3 girls. Trying to piece this together, to see if Anna at age 6 fits. It's possible. It's also possible that Anna's birth place is in error, however all of the census reports in later years show her birthplace as New York. The puzzle continues. Jerry

YOU WROTE: "In all census I found for John and Anna she is listed as born in New York, her parents names do not appear on the marriage reg. so how do you know her parents are George Rule/Sarah Fessle if you do not have the baptism or birth reg ? Is it on her death reg ? when did she die ?"
I totally agree, without proof no one can confirm her parentage.
Anna (Roseanna?) died 19 Sep 1904 and is probably buried in Knox, Starke, IN, a place I know well. See for her husband, John Wesley Hartsock http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=12493081&ref=acom

According to the 1900 census (the year John Wesley Hartsock died)for Washington Twnp. Starke County, IN, both of Anna's parents were born in PA. Looking for grave, obit or death certificate. Have someone from Knox who can investigate all three.

I am the Andrea Johnson who was looking for information back in 2005. I have confirmed that Anna Rule was the daughter of George Rule and Sarah Fessler. I signed up for 23andme and had two separate DNA matches with two distant cousins who are descended from two different sisters of Anna Rule. They all list George and Sarah Rule as the parents in their family records. Anna B. Rule and John Wesley Hartsoch were my three times great grandparents, so George and Sarah Rule were my four times great grandparents.
