Looking for Christina Reid - originally from Scotland - emigrated to Tasmania early 1800,s
My paternal great great grandmother Christina or Christiana came from Scotland to Hobart Tasmania early in 1800's. She had two children Christina in 1844 and Samuel in 1847, but was not married.
I can find no record of her arrival in Hobart.
I have a death certificate but I can't be sure it is her. She died at age 67 in Hobart in 1881, making her birth year about 1814. It also states she was born in Scotland & was a widow.
Samuel married a Scottish lady Agnes Isabel Watt and they had 4 children including my grandfather, Frederick Reid, who died before I was born.
Samuel was a bookmaker & had a shop in Hampden Rd in Battery Point in Hobart.
Hoping someone can help.

Hi County Clare,
I hope you are well. Have you looked on the Linc Tasmania website online. They have a surname search that i have found very helpful in researching my family tree here in Tasmania. There is a Christina Reid on there as arriving as a convict but that is much later. I don't know if you live in Tasmania or not but if you like i can add Christina to my list of people to keep an eye out for me when i go and research at my local genealogical library. I have Reid's in my family tree through marriage in Scotland Isobell Reid, whose parents i think were WIlliam Reid and Katherin Shields from Abercorn Scotland. Well i would be happy to see if there is any sign of Christina further in Tassie if you don't iive here.
Take care.

Hi Michelle
Thank you - I have lived most of my life in Hobart, and I am currently living in Melbourne. Yes I am aware of the Family Name Search on the Linc website. And that there was a convict named Christina Reid, but the dates don't fit.
Where about in Hobart do you do your research ?
Christina's son Samuel married Agnes Watt who emigrated from Girvan in Scotland with her parents.
I have Samuel's boot making indenture papers from 1867.
Do you have an Irish connection too ? ( from your log on name). I am also searching for my maternal great grandparents John Sexton and Jane Hogan, I can find no record of them in Ireland.
Kind regards
Jude
