G'day tonkin my brick wall is that I know a bit the line down from Hooper but know little of the Jones line, George hooper Jones (son of John and Mary) is my Great grandfather so I have marginal knowledge my line and know very very little of Johns sons Thomas, John, and Samuel am aware that the first born John died at 4 months.

Had a look at the births and deaths and found five children for John and Mary in South Australia.

I'm a bit confused here because you said George Hooper JONES was your Great Grandfather, so maybe John and Mary had another son with the given names of George Hooper. If they did I'm unable to locate his birth in South Australia.

If you can give me the 'birth & marriage' details you have for your George Hooper JONES it will point me in the right direction for more searches.

As my family was distant toward each other for reasons that are unknown to me except to say that i think my Grandmother had something to do with that.

Also I have found a curios co-incidence in that there girl born in S.A. that is remarkably similar to number 3 on my list: 1897 JONES Dorothy Vida John JONES Emma CARR Talunga 609/121,

Have seen somewhere that a Tonkin married a Jones from S.A. as I can not find it again I can not verify.

Your George Hooper JONES was born in London ... and not in South Australia so it appears you have been tracking the wrong family.

If George's age at death is correct he was born circa 1867.

My reasearch was predicated on the fact that the memorial plate that is on his ashes (wall) is 4/3/1870 and all of the Hoopers that I have had contact with that this George Hooper Jones is theres I guess they did not notice that there George Hooper Jones died at 1 week of age.

So know I am more than confused I am positively bamboozled to find that all my research is based on an untruth.

Have found a George Hooper Jones Born Camberwell England 1867 unfortunately that is all that I can see over yet another bloody brick wall I am beginning to resemble a pug.

You may have to purchase the birth certificate for George Hooper Jones b1867 Camberwell and also the marriage certificate 1890 to Jennie Hargraves to verify if it is the right person.

I also found this marriage interesting, possible coincidence, middle names sometimes have some family connections.

It is good to see that I have a sheppard looking out for me. I now have the marriage cert for George Hooper Jones and Jennie Hargreaves. On the cert it clearly states (as clearly as writing got in the 1890's) that George Hooper Jones's mother was Elizabeth Jones (nee) JOHNSON.

Does the marriage give any indication as to Williams occupation??

Yes according to the marriage certificate dated 21/05/1890. George's address was given as Moor street Fitzroy and William's occupation was given as an Agent.

Hi Shane, was wondering if you could help me with some information regarding George William Jones? If this is the one that married Jessie Emily (Ferris), then he is also my husbands grandfather. He was born Stephen Leslie Jones but his name was changed by deed poll when he was young (to Cameron). He is trying to track down the son of George and and Jessie, William Leslie, (his dad),as he hasn't seen him in over 40 years. We last had contact about 20 years ago when we tracked him down in QLD and I wrote to him but unfortunately we lost contact. As it is though, you and Stephen might be related in some way and it would be great if you could get in touch as he would love to know more about this side of his family.
