I don't know where you are on the planet, but my maternal g/f was a von LANDMANN who was born in Elberfeldt (sp?) in Germany. He was, I believe, one of three brothers who left Germany c. 1860's - one brother went to South Africe, another to Australia, and my g/f ended up in New Zealand. I know nothing about LANDMANNs outside NZ, but do have records from Germany back to c.1711, For obvious reasons, the "von" was dropped, and the last N also removed from surname.
