WOULD THIS BE YOUR WILLIAM ROBERTSON I BELIEVE HE MOVED TO MELBOURNE FROM BALCARDINE

Thanks for the suggestion - but the publican William Robertson opened the North Star Hotel in 1853. If Margaret was born in 1856, then this is three years beyond William being at the North Star. I don't know when publican Will was born but assuming that he was in his mid-twenties, more likely mid-thirties he would be in his very late 50's or early 60's when he married young Margaret. Not out of the question but ....will look out for young Margaret and for Balcardine. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the link - I have that report and have used the rootsweb link. They have been useful in trying to track back to the primary source. I have been trying to place a primary source to everything, so these types of things help to try to find the original place where the information came from.

In the 1890's The North Star Hotel in Carlton was owned by Thomas Fowell BUXTON 1847-1918, and his wife Mary, nee BOYER. T. F BUXTON's father was Richard BUXTON and his mother was named Silvestra Olivia ? She died in Rome, Italy on 13 April 1894, age 71. This was a very prominent family, he was descended from Thomas Fowell Buxton

Thanks for the tip - the Carlton North Star Hotel was in Nicholson Street on the corner of Macpherson Streets in Carlton and it dates from the early 1870's. Buxton is occassionaly identifed as Boxton on the hotel records. Unfortunately quite a distance from Howard Street North Melbourne and from the North Melbourne Hotel of 1853. I wonder if they are related to the current Buxton property family.

I was trying to find information related to the orginal publican William Robertson. If you have anything that may be related to North Melbourne and West Melbourne Hotels let me know.
