I am trying to find any information regarding my maternal Great grandfather David McDonald.
Great grandfather David McDonald, date and place of birth unknown, possibly somewhere in the UK.. According to his marriage certificate his fathers name was also David.
He married Mary Jane Smith on 14 January 1868 at St Paul Church Adelaide, South Australia. David was living in Gawler, South Australia working as a gardener.
Mary Jane was the daughter of Edwin James Smith and Hannah Mitchell. Mary was born at sea in 1849 & died 20August 1908 Adelaide, South Australia
They had 7 children, only 6 surviving. They were:
David Edward McDonald b. 26 April 1869, Gawler South Australia d. 26 May 1950 North Adelaide
Charles Stewart McDonald b. 31 March 1871 Kensington, South Australia d. unknown
John Alexander b. 22 Dec 1873 Morialta, South Australia d. 14 May 1946 Adelaide, South Australia
Albert Edgar b. 27 July 1876 Norwood, South Australia d. unknown
Allan Christopher b. 21 Feb. 1879 Morialta, South Australia d. 6 April 1882 Dunrobin, South Australia
Flora Beatrice 3 Mar. 1882 Dunrobin, South Australia d. 29 Oct. 1905 Woodville North, South Australia
Violet Lily b. 1 Sept.1890 Adelaide, South Australia d. 1966 Adelaide, South Australia
I do know David McDonald died when Violet (my maternal grandmother was only young. Mary Jane died 20 Aug. 1908 Adelaide, South Australia. Violet was only 18 & went to live with her eldest brother David Edward. My mother & aunt grew up calling him grandfather.
The only children I have any further information about is that of David Edwards marriage to Francis Leticia Porter, and the marriage of Flora Beatrice to Ernest Howe on 9 Dec. 1903
St Andrew Church Walkerville, South Australia and the birth of their child Ernest Arthur McDonald Howe about 15 July 1901 and he married Mary Faith Chapman in 1933.

DEATHS
McDONALD. On the 3rd.August, at his mother's
residence, Charles Stewart, the second beloved son
of Mary Jane and the late David McDonald, aged
31 years. A patient sufferer.
I also found this below, a marriage between David Edwin McDonald and Frances (Fanny) Eliza Heath nee, Malor.
This David Edwin was also a son of a David who was deceased. so of course with such a common name like McDonald you would need to take care.

Hi janilye,
Thank you so much, may I ask where you found these death notices. I used Trove and South Australia Heritage society when back in Adelaide but have had any luck. If I could find marriage and death notices of their of the children I maybe able to find more of the family.
The David Edwin married to Frances Heath could be David Edwards son, grandson of David & Mary Jane. I will try and sort that one out. Maybe not looking at the dates but Mary Jane's father was Edwin James.
Now I only have to find where David was born and I'll be happy as I've been trying to get this information for my 95 year old aunt, I'm just sorry I didn't get it for Mum to see.
Thanks again your help is truly appreciated.
Cheers
Suzanne
I found all the above on TROVE I entered David McDonald as a phrase. I have tagged all that I have found
Thanks for that I will try again.
