MURPHYS, GRIMES, FEENEYS AND DOUGLAS' OF QUEBEC
My g-grandfather, Joseph Robert MURPHY, was born about 1862 in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec, Canada. He was one of about 11 children, most of who did not survive till adulthood. His sister, Katie MURPHY married a George BURMAN after 1901. That was in St-Jean county, south of Montreal, very close to the US border. His father was William MURPHY, son of William MURPHY and Mary FEENEY, and he (Wm. Jr.) was born about 1830 either in Ireland or Scotland. William (Sr.) and Mary were born and likely married somewhere in Ireland. William (Jr.) married Mary GRIMES (GRAHAM) in 1851 in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle. Mary GRIMES, daughter of Michael (Michel) GRIMES and Elisabeth DOUGLAS, was born about 1830 in Lacolle. Her records indicate that she was of Irish descent.
Mary's sister, Margaret, married a Terrence O'NEILL in 1858 in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle.
I do not have any idea which county in Ireland that these families came from or who was born in Scotland and where and when.
I do not know which parish in Quebec to look at prior to the formation of Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle in about 1843.
Passenger records for Canada prior to about 1845 were pretty much non-existant.
Would love to connect with other descendants of these families. So far, the only ones have come from Joseph, my g-grandfather.
