MARRIAGE.

Groom: Arthur Linton LEAKE.
Birth place: Give as England.

Bride: Mary Ann BOULTON.
Birth place: Given as Yarrawinge.
(Index typo error. Mary's birth place was Tarrawinge)

Year Married: 1905.

Have not located any children for Arthur and Mary to date.

When you say they don't appear on the electoral rolls together what years and states have you searched?

Hello ,
Thank-you for your reply .

Looking at three electoral rolls for Western Australia :

Mary Ann Leake , housewife , is shown living at the same address as a Charles William Leake who is described as a miner (1916 ) , a settler ( 1925 and 1931 )

I cannot find Arthur Linton Leake on the Western Australia electoral rolls

You may have these details but will include them here as someone may be able to assist further.

DEATH.
Name: Mary Ann LINTON-LEAKE.
Died: 1951 Heidelburg, Victoria.
Age: 75 years.
Father: William BOULTON.
Mother: Phoebe CHARLTON.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, Victoria. Reg. #11209.

BIRTH.
Name: Mary Ann BOULTON.
Born: 1876 Tarrawinge, Victoria.
Father: William BOULTON.
Mother: Phoebe CHARLTON.
Ref: Registry of Births. Victoria. Reg. #19700.

Not sure why Mary's death was recorded under LINTON-LEAKE.

She was described as a housewife living with Charles William LEAKE in the Electoral rolls for 1916, 1925 and 1931. Hard to say if Arthur changed his given names or if Mary remarried to another LEAKE.

Unable to confirm a death for Arthur Linton LEAKE but I did find this one.

DEATH.
Name: Charles William LEAKE.
Died: Perth district, Western Australia.
Age: 91 years.
Parents: Not recorded.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, Western Australia. Reg. #2797.

Hope this is of some help.

Found another death entry for Mary under LINTON.

Name: Mary Ann LINTON.
Died: 1951 Melbourne, Victoria.
Age: 74 years.
Father: William BOULTON.
Mother: Phoebe CHARLTON.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, Victoria. Reg. #11209.

Notes.
Has same registration number (11209) as under LINTON-LEAKE.
Mary's death was registered twice but I don't know in what order.
Age recorded was 74 years both records. Typo error on my part when I said 75 years in third comment.

CREMATION.

Name: Mary Ann LINTON.
Cremated: Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Victoria.
Service date: 25 September 1951.
Cremated remains: Scattered at Springvale Botanical Cemetery.

It looks like Mary changed their name to LINTON for some reason and this will explain why her death was registered twice.

This death may be worth looking at.

Name: Arthur LINTON.
Died: 1949 North Carlton, Victoria.
Age: 73 years.
Father: Arthur LINTON.
Mother: unknown.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, Victoria. Reg. #7953.

CREMATION.

Name: Arthur LINTON.
Cremated: Fawkner Memorial Park, Victoria.
Service date: 14 July 1949.
Cremated remains: Location not recorded.

Could this be Mary's husband Arthur who also died under the name of LINTON?

Thank-you once again .

The surname LEAKE was missing from the couple's Victoria electoral roll entries from 1926 on .
They became listed as Arthur Linton ( cabinet maker ) and Mary Ann Linton ( home duties )

Your suggestion re the death of Mary's husband Arthur could be relevant because a handwritten note on the electoral roll ( 1949 I think ) seems to read 'died 1949' beside Arthur's crossed-out name

Funeral Notice - The Argus ( Melbourne, Victoria ) 14 July 1949 .

LINTON .- The Funeral of the late Mr. ARTHUR LINTON will leave 1 McIlwraith Street , Princes Hill , THIS DAY ( Thursday July 14 ) , at 2 p.m., for the Melbourne Crematorium

The above address was where Arthur and his wife Mary Ann were living , according to several electoral rolls .

The surname LEAKE was discarded at some unknown time , in favour of LINTON .

The earliest use of the surname LINTON ,now known to me , was in September,1919
when 'Mr. Arthur Linton' attended the wedding of one of his sisters-in-law.
On that occasion Mr. Arthur LINTON 'gave away' the bride who was a sister of his wife , Mrs. Mary Ann LINTON.

There was a second person named Arthur Linton LEAKE who lived in Australia about the same time .............
