Hopefully this will be of some assistance. In regard to Meadowbank bluestone, I presume that the bluestone used for the construction of Meadowbank and Gowrie Park came from the banks of Merlynston Creek.

PURPLE AND
GOLD
This story of a schoolboy's fondness for
Flemington and its unpleasant con-
sequences wins a prize of 5/ for Mr.
George Alexander, of Meadowbank, Camp-
bellfield.
This happened the year Poseidon won
the Melbourne Cup carrying the colours
"all purple." As I witnessed the race,
contrary to the orders of my head master,
the late Mr. L, A. Adamson, of Wesley,
I decided to wear my purple school cap
inside out to make myself less con-
spicuous to any master who might be
enjoying the "sport of kings."
But the ruse failed. I was on the
mat next morning, and was taxed with
the offence, which I admitted. Punish-
ment-confined to barracks next week-
end for "wearing wrong colours." The
punishment was not as great as I feared,
as "Dicky" was in his prime in those
days with the birch, and Pure Gold would
have swooned on the spot had he received
a couple of his cuts where they hurt.

I can't find a death notice for Geo Alex Zanderzee or a marriage record for Annie Zanderzee, possibly because the surname is spelled wrongly but more likely because George Alexander Zanderzee anglicised his name to George Alexander (using his second given name as a surname.)
Paste into search bar: https://emhs.org.au/person/vanderzee/alexander_robert
The above confirms that Geo Alex Zanderzee was George Alexander Zanderzee.
"Robert was born in 1894, the son of George Alexander Albert Vanderzee (aka George Alexander), livery stable proprietor, and wife, Annie, hotel licencee. On his enlistment papers Robert states that he was born in East Melbourne.....Robert enlisted on 11 December 1914 and described himself as 'gentleman'. He was not quite 21 and his mother signed the papers giving her consent to his enlistment, his father having died earlier, in 1906."
It is likely therefore that Ernest Alfred Ogg was George's stepbrother.

I could not find a death record or death notice for George Zanderzee or George Alexander in 1906 but I did find George's BIRTH RECORD which shows that George and his stepbrother probably had the same mother, Elizabeth, nee Mabb.

There were only five birth records for Zanderzee, George and his sister, and George and Annie's three children listed above. There had to be more so I looked for the death record of Annie's executor, Eric.

Correction. The second line in the above comment should be:
The above confirms that Geo Alex Vanderzee was George Alexander.
I must have been a bit weary and ready for a snoozzzzze but I wasn't really searching for ZANDERZEE as a reader might conclude from the oft-repeated error above. I really must proof read my comments with more care because they can't be edited.
Incidentally the surname VANDERZEE which I presume means "from the sea" seems to have been in existence in England by the 1300's possibly due to a marital connection forged during the crusades.
THANK YOU SO MUCH.
it was very kind of you to go to all that trouble. especially in such a short space of time.
yes for some reason they used the surname alexander and the women at that time i was told used their middle name.
it certainly doesn't help use find them.
yes i think the computer auto correct has its own mind.
as for vanderzee name thats interesting. For some strange reason I always thought it dutch. don't ask me how i thought that. my mother (half treadwell and half vanderzee) had a son he was blonde and fair skin. I came out olive skin a brown hair like my father. my daughter and two of her children have blond hair and fair skin. Anyway when i reach the other side i must ask.
thank you again

Jenny, I have no idea where I got the idea that the name Vanderzee was in use in England in the 1300's. I've been trying to locate the source but it doesn't seem to exist. I might have confused Vanderzee with another surname mentioned in another family tree circles journal (Brodribb.) Vandezee is almost certainly of Dutch origin.
