Journal by Ducko

Mark Duckett c 1809 – 1853 m 7.12.1829 Wormleighton, Warwickshire Mary Ann Bull c20.1.1811 Wormleighton, Warwickshire - 1841 (Banbury, Warwickshire) England). Mark Duckett deserted from the Royal Marines 20.5.1829, from Portsmouth, aged 20, of Boddington, Northants. (Labourer). He married Mary Ann Bull about 6 months later. Both sons Charles 8 and William 5 were in the Banbury Union Workhouse in, Neithrop, Oxfordshire, 1841, possibly following the death of their mother. This workhouse was built in 1835 on the North side of Warwick Road on 6 acres. It was a union of parishes rather than a trade union. http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Banbury/. . Banbury is only about 5 miles east of Shenington, where Hannah came from. By 1851 Charles (and William) was still in the workhouse at Neithrop, Oxfordshire, married, 17 yrs and occupation as Ag Labourer. (1851 census), then at “Hampton Lucy’ Warwickshire. Hannah and her daughter Mary Ann Nichols were also there.
The records of the workhouse (incorrectly?) give Hannah’s age as 56 in 1851 (and her birth year as c1795). However this would have put her age at death in 1899 as 102yrs ! whereas she was 76 yrs
