Thomas Burgess (1819-1883)

Query by Clepper6490

Hi There! My name is Allison Burgess Clepper, and I am looking for additional information on my paternal ancestry, particularly, my great-great-great grandfather, Thomas Burgess (1819-1883). I know that he was born in England around 1819. I believe he shows up on the 1830 and 1840 USA censuses under his father's household (William Burgess of Pittsburgh). He shows up on the 1850 US Census in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife, Ann Jane, and his children. I believe that he married Ann in 1839, but i have no records of this. My g-g grandfather was his son, Orlando Miller Burgess. His son was William Neil Burgess, and his son (my grandfather) was Orlando Miller Burgess.

I CANNOT find any information on his voyage to America (When, What ship, Where, etc.)

I CANNOT find any information on his actual birth (i.e birth/parish record)

I CANNOT find any information on his death, other than the date on his headstone.

I CANNOT find any information on his parents, although it is rumored that they were William Burgess and Margaret Masters.

It was also rumored that Thomas was a doctor, but the census indicates that he was a laborer. I do have a marble brick with an engraving of "Dr. Th. Burgess" on it- so there is a bit of a mystery there.

Any information that can be offered will be extremely welcome and appreciated!
