Looking for informastion on siblings / relatives of William Tecumseh Sherman
My mother's, mother's mother is in some way related to the General Sherman of the American Civil War (brother / cousin etc.?) Apparently there was a war pension and some medals (probably long gone). I am interested in establishing the connection to add to the family tree

Hello,
My great-grandmother was Evalyn (Evatna) Francis Sherman, she was a
niece of William Techumseh Sherman. She married Freeman Bowerman.
I'm still trying to work backward to William T. If you have any info
please pass it along and I will do the same.
Thanks again,
Kathryn Bowerman
Hello Everyone,
My name is Thom Brackett. Like "Onigomi" I was raised being told that we were direct descendants of General Sherman. My family is from Stamford CT. I am just starting my search. Our family surnames include Brown, Taylor, and Hoyt.
If it is true that I am related I will be DAMN PROUD! There is a strong family resemblance too.
Any help will be appreciated and returned.
Thom

William T. Sherman was a savage war criminal. If I did find out I was related to him I would not tell anyone.
I've also been told that I'm related to William T. Sherman through my fathers mother. Her maiden name was Ruth Belvedere (my last name is Lally). I'm not sure of her mothers maiden name though since her mother die when by grandmother was very young. I would love to be able to find out more about it.

Hello! I'm also a descedant of Tecumseh Sherman. A direct one as well. My mother's maiden name is Sherman and My grandfather and his brothers all resembled him. I am also a descendant of Roger Sherman, the signer of the declaration of Independance and writer of the 3/5s Compromise. I don't know the exact line of descent but I have a pretty clear one. My family and I currently reside in New Jersey as well as my uncles who still hold the name Sherman. I've found dates that bring me back to 1634 but I'm not quiet sure yet. Keep in conact!
My husband's Aunt told us we were related this weekend. Go figure.
According to her, my husbands Grandmother had a cousin who was named Sadie Sherman (maiden name) and he was her cousin.
My great great great great great uncle was William T. Sherman (by marriage). I am related genetically to the Ewing side.
There are no "Direct Descendants" from Wm. T. Sherman with the last name Sherman. The Sherman name stopped with his sons. Only two of his sons lived into adulthood and neither got married or had any legitimate children. The most closely related anyone can be, with the Sherman name, is to be a direct descendant of one of his brothers.
There are so many people that have been told that they're related to W.T. Sherman. I was told that, as a child, as well. It took me some time to figure it out, but Ancestry.com was the best reference as well as my father's papers. W.T. Sherman is actually my 5th cousin 3x removed. Connected through Honorable Samuel Sherman who was the brother of Rev. John Sherman. It's Samuel which connects me to W.T. Sherman. We never told anyone when we lived in Atlanta!
Hello, my mother did the ancestry thing a couple days ago and filled it completely on her dads side, his great grandmothers last name was Sherman, this was confirmed by his still living sister. She was related to Sherman in someway or another and it showed this on the tree. my grandfathers last name was Cross
