Of Maltese descent.

Journal by grenadier1961

Many years of research has seen me explore my LAMBERT roots from 1600s MALTA.

It all began with My love of MALTA and the fact that my Grandad was born there and led me to employing a professional genealogist on the Island to help fill in the blanks.

This led me to explore much nearer to home with my concentration on my direct LAMBERT line and their movements throughout NOTTINGHAMSHIRE and LINCOLNSHIRE.
After many years my tree has grown and includes many smaller branches of wives and husbands but all with some connection to the LAMBERT'S. It has been great fun and over time I have had contact with many kind people that have pointed me in the right direction and helped me when I have become stuck or misunderstood something.

Names and places I have researched in the past and continue to do so are:

LAMBERT, SWIFT, NUTTALL, BISSETT, LAMB, all NOTTINGHAMSHIRE & LINCOLNSHIRE

BISSETT, CONROY in IRELAND especially KILKENNY and its surrounding counties

XERRI, SCERRI, CAMILLERI, BUTUSSIL, GERMANO SALIBA all MALTA.

If any of the above names are of interest to you, then it would be great to get our heads together to see what information we can exchange.

Regards to all...Dave.

Hi. I was adopted and have no idea who my father is. Just had MyHeritage DNA done and it came back with a slew of Italian sounding names and a majority ethnicity location from England,
Ireland and the Balkans. I am in the United States.I'm presently working on the Scerri name. I checked my matches and Lambert does come up. Two in Belgium, one in the USA and one in Sweden. Not with the Lambert name though. Only relatives of. They are all distant relatives. I also have Camilleri on my matches. Im a little confused as to why England is so prevalent in my DNA. Mom was german. That much I know. Spent 30 years searching her. Now its dads turn. Wow! And I thought the german side was tough! Lol.

Hello my friend.
It sounds like you are having some fun searching your Ancestry!
The Scerri or Xerri families which I am researching are all from Malta, or have been for the last 2 hundred years or so, but that doesn't mean that they are not of Italian descent at some stage. I have recently discovered quite a few second cousins over in Malta, so hopefully soon I will be able to take the Scerri family back a couple of more generations with their help.

As the British Army was based in Malta in the late 1800s/early 1900s you will find that there was a lot of children with English Fathers and Maltese Mothers with the majority moving back to the Uk in the first quater of the 1900s. Maybe this could account for your connection with England and/or the Scerris?

The Camilleri family (which married into the Scerri family) has a possible descent from North Africa, but this hasn't been confirmed as yet in my research. I have my Camilleri family going back to the late 1500s/early 1600s, but these Camilleris were all from Malta.

I also have an Irish connection, but this is all from my Mother's side and they were Bissetts from Kilkenny. Probably not relative information, but you never know !

As for the Lamberts, mine are all English at the moment, but I haven't taken them back further that the 1700s, so anything before that date is unknown as yet.

As I have not done my DNA as yet (I'm still thinking which one I should do and who to use) I cannot check for any matches with you, but if you think that my Lambert, Scerri, Camilleri families could be connected, then please contact me at any time and I will do my best to help.

Kind regards...Dave Lambert grenadier1961@sky.com
