Paul Walker arrived in New South Wales in late 1829 as a convict with a life sentence. He was convicted of stealing two sheep when he was droving the sheep of Francis Green of Tilney, Norfolk.

In NSW Paul was assigned to Joseph Onus of Richmond, on the Hawkesbury River. Fr ten years he worked for Onus and Onus' family. Some of that time was spent on the Liverpool Plains where Joseph Onus and family members had squatting runs.

In 1843, as a ticket of leave man, Paul Walker and Margaret Murphy (of Tipperary) had a child together at Patrick Plains (Singleton area). In 1844 the child was baptised Jane Mary Walker.

In 1854 Paul Walker and his wife and daughter moved to the Boggabri area. Paul had selected a squatting run he and Margaret named "The Vale of Sighs".

Paul died in 1861 and is buried on the land that was the Vale of Sighs.
