August Kinkel and Caroline Schroeder-My Great, Great, Great, Grandparents
Additional Family information:
I have some info on my Great Grand Parents that lived in Sharon Township in the 1860's.
In fact they came to Sharon in 1856.
Their names are August and Caroline Kinkel.
They farmed in section 31, in which they had 80 acres given to them under the 1855 land grant. In 1860 August was given 160 acres in two sections, 80 acres in Section 29 and 80 acres in Section 31. This was given to him under an Officers and Soldiers land grant. The land was given to a Captain William R. Manning, a Georgia Militia Captain. Evidently he did not want it so he gave it back to the Government land office in Henderson and August received the land. This is on file in Le Center Minnesota courthouse. August sold 40 acres to his Brother John in November of 1866 and sold the balance of the 160 acres before 1870. In 1880 August had 80 acres in section 18 of Sharon and John farmed 120 acres in the same section. Both farms were right next to each other.
August and Caroline were married in Falkenberg Germany in 1846 and
their first child Marie was born in November of 1848 near Berlin,
two daughters Milthida and Alma were also born in Germany.
In 1852 the family left Germany for America and settled in Watertown
Wisconsin where my Grandfather William and his Brother John were born.
In 1856 August and family came to Sharon town.
John and Johanna Dammann were married in May of 1861 in Le Sueur and
proceed to have 14 children.
August and Caroline had 9 children.
August died in Le Sueur in March of 1895 of Apoplexy which is a stroke
and Caroline died in 1916 of probably old age in St Paul.
John Died of Stomach Cancer in 1890 in Minneapolis and Johanna died in
1908 in Minneapolis. None of the children stayed on the farm.
